Sending Save The Dates around Christmas

Hal_2019, on October 3, 2018 at 12:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Hi!

So I'm getting married next October. (10.18.19, SHOUTOUT TO MY DATE TWINZZZZ)

Anyways we just got our engagement pics back and I'M OBSESSED. We want to wait until black Friday/Cyber Monday to order our save the dates because I'm assuming there will be sales going on. I was thinking about sending them out in December/January. I've seen a lot of Happy New Year/Merry Christmas/ "oh what fun"/ save the date cards that are are holiday looking but A) I'm not dressed for winter in our engagement pics B) is it weird to have a holiday theme save the date up on your fridge for 9 months??

Or should I just send them with a normal save the date theme and just forget about the holiday card part?

Advice would be appreciated. thanks so much!!

For my October wedding I sent my save the dates in late February, which was ample time I think to get them out and gave people 8 months notice about the wedding. You could always purchase your save the dates on Black Friday in a non-holiday format.

Hello there!!! Smiley smile I'm all for saving some money and waiting for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales, but I'm going to say take a pass on the holiday look for save the dates unless it's something you absolutely love and need to happen. I mean, I have Christmas lights up in my house year round, so if I got a holiday STD, I'd keep it up regardless of time of year, but I think you might be sending out your save the dates a little early if you send them at Christmas.

Unless you're planning a destination wedding, save the dates don't usually go out until four to six months before your wedding, which would be somewhere in the spring, not Christmastime. Plus, I know I get a bunch of mail and Christmas cards from family and friends during that time of year, so I might be a little overwhelmed and accidentally misplace any STDs I would receive. Just something to think about. Smiley winking

Where did you take your engagement pictures?

Hi. I'm getting married next September. I'm planning on sending out my STDs late January/early February. I don't want them getting lost in the shuffle of holiday cards. I think it's a cute idea though! I would just make sure that it's really obvious they are save the dates and not just holiday cards that could get thrown out by the new year.

There's nothing wrong with a holiday format if you'd like to do that, but I feel like it may be a bit odd since I see you are getting married in October so I assume your wedding is not holiday-themed? Just a thought lol.

If I were you I would wait to send them out until January... people go on vacation a lot and get so much mail in November/December, I feel like it's more likely to get lost/slip through the cracks! If you send in January that'll still be 10 months before your wedding and I think people are more likely to see them!

I'd definitely wait until January or February to send them and I'd skip the holiday theme. Your save the dates could get lost in the holiday mail or guests could accidentally throw them away after Christmas with the rest of the Christmas cards if they are holiday themed, totally forgetting its a save the date. I also don't really want a Christmas card on my fridge all year.

Definitely buy them on sale over the holidays though! Are your guests traveling far? They really don't need a 10 month notice if its a local wedding but if you want to send them to people who are traveling farther that works. Just remember, the earlier you send them the earlier you lock yourself into a guest list so don't jump the gun unless you're totally sure on your list and who you are inviting.

Such good points from PPs. Save the Dates can have a similar format to printable Christmas cards and making them a holiday theme could make them look almost identical! Id rather have my save the date stand out and not get lost in the shuffle. I was thinking of sending save the dates out around this time too (September 2019 wedding but lots of guests flying in) but now I’m thinking January at the earliest.

I'd be concerned about them getting lost in the mail if they're sent around the holidays. USPS is the worst.

I think it is fine to have holiday save the dates. We did holiday engagement announcement cards last year. Fun way to announce!

I would definitely buy them on sale if you can, but I would not make them holiday themed and I would probably wait until after the holidays to send them out.

We are having a Christmasy wedding but we arent doing holiday themed Save the Dates. We are also mailing them in 2 shifts - first set will go out in Mid-January for our December wedding and only to the family and friends that have to travel a long way to get there. Shift 2 will be mid-late spring to local friends who can get there and back home in an hour or so. (aka people that wont need a hotel room).
