Sending Invitations Electronically?

Ingrid, on March 2, 2021 at 4:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Did anyone send their invitations electronically? And how does that work?

I wanted to send regular paper invites but they are too expensive and I know a lot of them will end up in the trash so I thought of just getting some for the people that I know will for sure want them, like grandparents or family. And the rest of the invites just send them electronically. But I'm not sure if that's a good idea?

What do you think?

I think electronic invites are fine for backyard BBQ type weddings, but way too casual for anything more formal than that.

How formal is your wedding? I agree with PP, electronic invitations are fine for backyard-style casual weddings, but anything semi-formal or above should have paper invitations sent in the mail.

I know a lot of people save a ton of money doing Costco invitations. They are very affordable.

It's pretty formal. I'm just struggling trying to find affordable invites. The thing is that I will have to send some in Spanish and some in English and it looks like by doing that it will be more expensive. Or at least that is what I saw.

Oh I see. Well if you're having a formal wedding then I really don't think there is a way to get around paper invitations being sent in the mail. If you're looking to cut corners, you MIGHT be able to get away with online RSVPs, but for a formal wedding you'd really need physical invitations IMO. I'd check out Minted or Shutterfly for some affordable options.

You can try getting an invitation template from Etsy, which is no more than $20, and print them yourself or bring the file to Staples/Office Depot and have them print it for you. Much cheaper than ordering invitations.

Another option is going to Michael's or a craft store to get wedding invitation kits and print them yourself.

I've also seen some cute ones on Amazon, you buy the paper/kit and then print it yourself.

Other cost savings wedding invitations I have found are from Costco, Walgreens, Ann's Bridal Bargains.

I'm still weighing my options and looking at which designs I like best.

Try only doing invites and maybe having guests RSVP online. We are giving guests the option to RSVP by mail or online.

I found a free template by doing a google search. Then p printed them at Staples. I got 50 (I think) invites on upgraded paper, RSVPs, and detail cards plus 20 inserts for rehearsal dinner for around $35. Then I had to buy a box of envelopes. I got a box of 100 for $8 from Hobby Lobby when they were half off. I also used them for our Thank-you cards. Invites don’t have to be expensive you just have to think outside the box a bit.

Agree with this. Electronic invites are fine for a birthday or family reunion but not for a wedding.

Fiance and I know a couple who sent electronic invites to save money and they had almost no one show up because everyone was waiting for paper invites.

If you want quality paper invites that are inexpensive, check out annsbridalbargains.com and Costco.com

I’m going to disagree with everyone here and say I think yours is a good idea, and I will also be doing electronic invitations for friends and paper invitations for old people who I don’t trust to see the email. It’s important to me to minimize waste, and paper waste is huge with weddings. Also, I don’t have anyone’s addresses! We talk frequently with pretty much everyone we are inviting, so why not just follow up in our next conversation, “oh I sent the invite to your gmail, let me know if you didn’t get it!” Who cares if it’s a more formal event, why not just save some trees and some money?

From the perspective of a guest, I'd be pretty confused to receive an electronic invitation to a formal wedding. Doing online RSVPs would be fine, but I don't think electronic invitations are appropriate for formal weddings. If I received an electronic invitation, I would automatically assume that your wedding was super casual.
