sending gift too early?

Sh, on June 18, 2014 at 8:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Is there's such a thing? My friend is getting married a little over a month from now and things are flying off her registry. I want to get her a decent sized gift since her family has been very generous to us, but she's not sure if she'll be staying at her current apartment or moving. I want to buy her her gift soon before there's nothing left for me to buy her but I'm wondering if maybe it's too early and if it would be a hassle to get a large gift (I'm thinking of getting her the vacuum she wants)and possibly have to deal with moving it to a new place.

When I got married I put my parent's address as the shipping address for all gifts so it wasn't a problem moving gifts around when I had to move 2 hours away from my old apartment, because the house we were getting was 15 minutes from them. But gifts from her registry will be sent directly to her apartment. What do you guys think, is it too early and I should wait or should I just go for it and buy her the gift?

I would go ahead and buy the gift. I'm always an early gift buyer because I want first dibs on the good stuff! If you plan on getting her the vacuum, I'm sure she'll need it to clean the apartment she's in before she moves out!

I would also buy early and get the gift you want.

Just go for it. That way you know she gets it and you don't wait til there is nothing left of the registry

I would say even if she is moving, she did register for this stuff so expects that it may be a possibility of getting the big stuff. I say go for it!

I tend to buy gifts super early. My FBIL's wedding, I bought their gift 3 months before. Though I got it at the store and kept it at my place until the actual wedding date. Is this an option for you? Have it sent to you and give it to her later? If not, she should have the room for the things she registered for since she planned on having them. My FSIL (married to above FBIL) was getting wedding gifts before her bridal shower, which was 5 weeks before the wedding.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm just going to go for it.

Elizabeth, with my daughter's due date approaching the last thing I want is to have to move around a large box and have it take up space in my garage and then have to deliver it at a later date.
