Send Off?

LaLa, on May 30, 2019 at 5:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15

Are you doing a send off? We were asked if we want to do a sparkler or glow stick send off. Our photographer isn't staying past the first dance so my first instinct is no.

I honestly haven't been to that many weddings. Do you think a send off is necessary, or does everyone just naturally leave when it ends? lol. I don't want to leave it awkwardly hanging and the end, but I also don't want to have to gather everyone to come wave a glow stick around lol. We're renting a town car or limo to take us to our destination after the wedding.

Thoughts?

We're not- we're just moving the party downtown for bar hopping once our time at the venue is up. Smiley laugh

Nice! Does someone announce that? Or is it just word of mouth?

It's going to word of mouth as we don't expect everyone to join us. We'll be seeing a lot of our family members the next day before we leave for our mini-moon.

I don't think they are necessary especially if your photographer won't be there.

A send off is super unnecessary. These days they’re like a trendy photo op (I’ve literally been to a wedding where they paused the music, we stood outside, did a FAKE send off for pics, and then EVERYONE (couple included) went back in to dance). Guess the photographer was leaving early or maybe the light was just right but whatever it was, it felt silly and kind of a buzzkill as a guest. We skipped it, and everyone still left the party when the music stopped 🤣

It is totally unnecessary but it is a good photo op. I sort of last minute decided to add one in. I am doing bubbles. I figured it was cheap and another little party favor people can have. But if you skip out on it, it is totally fine!

We didn't do a send off because we didn't want to interrupt the flow of the party or signal to the guests that it was time to leave. Some people choose to stage send-off pics and just have their immediate family and wedding party do the send off for them for the pictures that way none of the other guests know and the party continues. As for not doing the send off and your guests leaving, our band leader announced the last dance of the night and then people just gathered their things and left afterwards. Shortly before that "last call" was announced so people knew the reception was coming to an end soon. It was not awkward at all.

Daughter and SIL chose not to have a "send off." The majority of the guests stayed until the very end. They'd planned a last song and the DJ announced it, but everyone was still dancing, so he ended up playing three different "last" songs. Smiley winking When he finally quit, a lot of the B&G's friends/wedding party members hung out for a while for lots of hugs and long good-byes. The B&G were the very last people to leave the reception room. Their photographer was still there and he got some final awesome photos of them alone at the end of the night on the dance floor. The venue banquet captain who was overseeing the clean up told daughter in all his years working there, he'd never seen a wedding end that way and he thought it was awesome.... Those final pictures are so sweet!

We won’t be doing a send off. Actually my Photographer suggested it but it’s not for me.

I have actually never been to a wedding with a send off. All the weddings I've been to, the DJ just announced the last song at the end. Then everyone leaves. That's our plan as well. We have shuttles to take people back to the hotel at the end of the night (those staying of course) and I have the schedule with the last shuttle run on our wedding website. I'm assuming we'll be on that last shuttle lol.

We're doing the stage send-off pics with immediate family and bridal party because we won't have our photographer the whole reception either. One pro I find with that too is that you don't have to wait for everyone to shuffle outside, shuffle everyone back inside and then have guests think they need to leave.

I too am torn on this whole idea. On the one hand, it seems rather "old fashioned," like "Oh, it's time to send off the new couple and we'll never see them again;" but on the other hand, it seems like part of the whole wedding celebration tradition.

I don't think I've been to a recent wedding where the couple has done this. Our wedding is going to end very late, so it doesn't look like we would be able to do this.

This is our plan too. I want to do glow sticks, but I think we are just doing them on the dance floor now.

Glow sticks are fun- a friend did that at her wedding and the kids had a techno dance off with them. 😂

We are either going to do this:

    Send Off? 1

    or this:

    Send Off? 2
