Send off: yay or nay?

Heather, on November 9, 2017 at 6:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

I'm debating having a big send-off. my fiancé and I are having our reception in a brewery and we are not allowed to have sparklers or fire of any kind. I've thought about having a sendoff in the parking lot but then how great will the pictures turn out? We will more than likely be meeting up with our friends afterwards anyways so how important is it to be sent-off? Our hotel is 1.5 miles away, so would it be worth it to rent a car just for a send off?

Also, has anybody ever rented a car from a private citizen for a send off? I'm thinking of finding a car from a private owner at a car show and asking if we could contract services for the evening if we wished to do a send-off. Thoughts?

Personally, I'd skip it and just spend the money elsewhere.

Maybe you could do a send off with something different like wildflowers or bubbles!

Like @Rebecca said, the only thing we're doing is a sendoff with bubbles. It's really not even a sendoff though, we're just having people blow them as we come out of the church and go around the block before the reception.

Nay! They always seem so posed anyway like people only do it for the pictures not the actual "send off". If you're meeting your friends afterwards, there's no point. Maybe get a similar picture walking back down the isle after your ceremony?

I'd rather shut down the super expensive party I'm throwing. Send-offs involve being one of the first to leave.

We're planning to meet up with friends after, but we are also looking at doing a small sparkler send-off and then taking a walk around the grounds just the two of us.

We're doing one, but not before the party is over. Our reception is scheduled to end at 10, so we're doing a send off at 10 so it gets everyone out of the building and isn't a weird lights on kinda thing.

We did a flower petal sendoff. I wanted to do one to give an ending to the reception. We were leaving to get on a bus with the rest of the wedding party to go back to the hotel so no getaway car. It wasn't the cheapest honestly but I loved it and I liked that it made a clear ending to the reception.

Nah! If you're meeting up with your friends afterwards, it's pointless. I was recently at a wedding where the couple did a sparkler send off. It was pretty chaotic trying to get everybody's sparklers lit and they decided that they wanted better pictures, so they ran through twice. Their quest for Pinterest perfect pictures really ruined the flow.

Every wedding that I've been to with a send off, I found it to be quite annoying. It stopped everything and threw off the fun everyone was having, then you have to stand around waiting for the bride and groom to be ready and it just isn't fun. I'd skip it.

We weren't going to do one bc I'm not in to the fads of late such as sparklers. But we went to a wedding last night where they did the sparklers and then got in the car and drove off. Still don't like and won't do the sparklers but I did like the idea of the bride and groom leaving on their own. We are staying in a room at our venue that night but I'm starting to think we might have a " mini" exit with a certain song where we just go up to our room to take a breather and change our clothes and whatever before returning downstairs for our after party.

We didn't do one and I definitely do not regret it! We have beautiful pictures of us walking out of our ceremony and that was plenty for us. There's so much chaos the day of I can't imagine having to organize people for one more thing!

Our venue doesn't allow sparklers either. We are doing a send-off though because FILs offered to pay for a vintage Rolls Royce to take us from the venue to our hotel. We are not having an after party with anyone, so this works for us. We are thinking of passing out white glow sticks to everyone so there's still something fun for the send-off photos!
