Semi-DIY Photo Booth - Polaroid or Digital?

Nats, on July 26, 2017 at 9:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

Debating what to do about our photo booth. Our decorator includes the booth and an attendant with the package, so now I'm debating how to handle the camera/photos.

Option 1: The attendant uses their Polaroid camera and I hope that they remember to take 2 shots and save one of them (we'd cover the cost of film). Pro: people get their photos right away. Con: We'll probably miss some, and need somewhere to put the photos. We already have a guestbook and something for people to leave advice/wishes, so I don't really want to put out a 3rd thing for people to have to write in.

Option 2: The attendant uses my DSLR camera, and after the wedding I dump all the photos in an online gallery that guests can access for their photos. Pro: Everyone gets all the photos to use as they wish. Con: No one gets their photo right away.

We're not at all social media savvy, but I'm also wondering if a hashtag is the solution? Thoughts?

    Use Polaroid!

-Ask attendant to take two photos of those who want to keep their photo. (Not everyone will keep one or keep up with it)

    - make sure to put it where every one can see it or have someone announce where it is!

Get a box or a basket to put photos in.

Digital. 2 reasons; first Poloroids are very expensive and it may take more than 2 per person/couple to get the shot. Second, Poloroids will fade/warp over time whereas with digital they will remain crisp and you can make as many copies as you want from them.

I have to ask. Are you asking a guest to be an attendant for your photo booth? It would suck to be stationed in one place all night and not get to partake in activities.

@constance I think the decorator has an attendant. That's what I got from her post.

I would do digital. Polaroids are expensive and with digital you can have forever and not worry about losing them. You can also make multiple copies.

My daughter has one of the newer Polaroid cameras and the pictures are crap. I'd go digital and send them out to everyone later

    Thanks, everyone! Appreciate the feedback.

As far as giving access...one thought I had was to essentially set up a public album ahead of time and have a sign with the link/QR code by the booth so people could bookmark it. We have several days between the wedding and honeymoon, so I was planning to put the photos up ASAP (shouldn't take long). That's also why I thought of a hashtag being useful, but I'm embarrassed to say I'm not even totally sure how those work.

@constance, definitely not a guest! I wouldn't ever ask anyone to do that, it's someone the decorator would bring.

I think digital would provide the best quality photos. I would prefer that as a guest.

Did a DIY Photo booth for my niece's wedding a few years ago. I used Vistaprint to print business cards with the shutterfly site where I downloaded the photos. This allowed "Aunt Sally" to not only get copies of HER photos, but of little Jimmy and Susie too.

Do you know how the attendant would handle guests asking him/her to take a pics with their phones? On one hand, that's a way for them to have a pic right away, but it could also be a logistical nightmare.
