Selling dress before receiving?

Chloe, on January 24, 2022 at 2:33 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
So I’ve posted here before in regards to having wedding dress regret. And I can’t shake the feeling. I’m unable to do a refund or an exchange and am now looking into selling it online. My issue is, I want to sell it preferably before I start looking for a new one but my weddings in November of this year so I need to get on it.
Has anyone tried selling a dress that’s still on order and had any success?

Thanks in advance!!

When does your dress arrive? Because to be honest with you, I would never buy a re-sold dress that the seller does not even physically have, it would just seem to unsecure for me to pay a lot of money for something that may or may not exist. People will ask you for additional pictures or information, and will back out if you cannot deliver. If it's a matter of days or weeks, then go ahead, by the time someone wants to buy it you'll probably already have it. But otherwise, I would wait.

My friend’s wedding was cancelled and she tried to sell her dress on several websites for over a year with no luck. You are better off keeping it.

I agree with Shannon. You loved the dress at one point, wait til it comes in and give it a chance. Selling dresses online is a crapshoot.

Selling a wedding dress is extremely hit or miss. You may sell it in a day, or it may sit there for years. And you likely won’t get what you paid for out of it. From what I’ve seen on these resale sites, most of the dresses that sell are ones that are unaltered and are being offered at a significantly discounted price (30% or more). So I definitely wouldn’t count on money recouped from the sale to pay for a new one. If you are dead set on purchasing a new dress, I would do so with the mindset that you will be paying for it out of pocket. As far as selling a dress before receiving it, most of these sites make you agree to their selling terms, which includes a line about you physically having the dress and being able to ship it out within a specified amount of time (usually 72 hours), so I don’t think that option would work.

Would you buy a dress from someone who doesn’t even have it yet? I wouldn’t waste my time trying.
