Selfie station at my reception

Trish, on July 31, 2016 at 3:05 PM Posted in Married Life 0 33

So I want to do a DIY selfie station at my reception as opposed to renting a photo booth. Does anyone have any ideas on props, and backgrounds I can use, and where to get it all? Thanks everyone!

A 90s party I was at recently had wooden skewers (the kind you roll through kebab) and on them they had cut-out moustaches, lips, speech bubbles with funny quotes, pictures of Nokia 3310 phones, etc. I was actually going to use this idea for my wedding, seeing as sooo many people took pictures with them and had so much fun. Perhaps take things from your decade, or things that have significance with your family and friends, also funny prop glasses, hair bands, wigs. But definitely make it relatable and something your guests can improvise with!

Make sure the station has good light and a tidy backdrop, like a draped cloth or an empty wall and you're set!

We are doing one at ours as well. I have seen lots of cute DIY backdrops on Pinterest. We are getting married outside in a wooden garden so not doing a backdrop besides the nature.

We are doing a selfie booth too! I bought a few selfie sticks at the local bridal consignment store and have been collecting random props. We have stuff from garage sales, friends and dollar store. We're planning to build a back drop with PVC pipes and cover with some patterned fabric. All in, it should cost us around $200 or less.

One bride on here had cutouts of her and the grooms faces! Her guests loved it!

Our venue had really nice brick so we didn't use a backdrop but there are tons of DIY tutorials for it on Pintrest. Buy some props off Amazon and display them on a table with a few selfie sticks. Since we didn't do the backdrop, we spent like $50 on props and the selfie sticks.

We bought a metal "wedding arch" from a garage sale for $7 and are going to attach ribbons to hang down on the back side of it for a back drop Smiley smile writing phrases like "#team bride" #love, etc..out on posterboard and attaching them to kebab skewers! voila!

There are tons of awesome DIY backdrop tutorials on pinterest (I myself have about 5 of them saved!). Some are as simple as ribbon or streamers, while others are large paper flowers or geometric designs. Maybe are put together either directly on the wall, but check with your venue for restrictions, or on a PVC pipe structure.

For props you can get those on Amazon, Michaels, etc or make them yourself. There's tons of options!

I say this on every one of these threads but double check pricing for photo booths. You can find great deals and it'll save you so much stress.

@Spirit, good advice! Even though I'm not the OP, I will be utilizing your advice at my wedding! I, personally, do not like the cutout of face or entire body idea. It's kinda creepy lol! Not really feeling the mustache/lip props either. But, the #TeamBride signs or anything else that really goes along with your wedding is a great idea!

I bought a black tablecloth and gold foil curtain off amazon to use as a backdrop, also going to add a Mr and Mrs or heart bunting. Amazon has props too!

We did this at my bridal shower after seeing it on pinterest! We bought a bunch of props on etsy and it was a hit!

ETA: We bought some selfie sticks on amazon for a couple bucks. I think this is such a cute idea and great alternative to the Photo Booth if its not in budget!

Oriental Trading has a ton of props for fairly cheap.

They are sets, and some are themed

We got lucky with our venue space, we didn't need the PVC pipe idea (we were going to do it) but our venue has large windows and on both sides where the curtain rod goes, there's actually enough space to put a shower curtain rod in (they don't have curtains or a rod) and we're draping white somewhat translucent fabric up with twinkle lights underneath for the backdrop, I got a couple selfie sticks on amazon and I also got my props on amazon. All said and done mine was under $100. The amount of fabric I got was $40, selfie sticks were $9 and change each, twinkle lights I already had, props were $8.95 and the shower curtain rod was like $9 at walmart.
