Self serve wine ideas

Samantha, on June 25, 2018 at 9:55 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
So I am trying to avoid hiring a bartender and saving some money as we have already went way over our budget and I was thinking of doing self serve beer and wine only. I planned to have beer in coolers and wine at the tables (a white and red), extras on hand to replace as needed. I’ve read of some people doing this and it working out fine, but i need ideas to display it.. would I just place them next to our centerpiece or should I put little baskets under the table to grab when we are get seated? Our centerpiece will be repurposed bridal bouquets in a vase. Thank you!!

Hire a bartender. It will be the best money you spend in terms of liability and cutting people off. People can and do get plenty hammered on beer and or wine (trust me.) Please save your money someplace else - cut a limo, a photobooth, skip favors. etc.....a bartender is a must.

Bartenders control people being overserved, underage drinking, and have liability insurance. I wouldn't want to be on the hook for people over serving themselves or underage guests drinking because I didn't hire a bartender.

I would put them next to the centerpiece! But just be aware that people will probably pour more than “a glass” worth when serving themselves, so make sure to have more bottles than you think you need.
As long as you have plenty of alcohol on hand, you’ll be fine. Where is your wedding?

Where is your reception? Most (if not all) venues require the use of a bartender if there is alcohol. I think you are increasing your legal liability by not having one.... Who will ensure those under 21 won't drink or those that have had too much to drink are cut off?

Cutting the bartender is the worst way to save money for all the reasons pp said. Definitely hire a bartender and cut elsewhere.

Agree with pps. If you don’t hire a bartender make sure you have really good liability insurance. Also make sure this is allowed at your venue.

Wine on the table would probably be fine. Do you plan on chilling the white wine? Or having a bar area at all? You could do 1-2 bottles of each on the table, then beer & wine in coolers near your "bar area".
