Self-serve Alcohol vs Hiring Bartending

I am feeling torn between if we should have self-serve alcohol or paying extra to hire someone to come in and serve. The company we are looking at to serve as insurance. I have read a lot about self-serving and being liable if something were to happen. I also do not want people to get out of hand...

Liability issues aside, a licensed pro will be able to serve drinks much faster than people serving themselves. I recently went to a wedding that had 1 self-serve tap, 1 dispenser of water, a couple jugs of wine, and a soda fountain with 2 choices. People just crowded around the whole area, so it was very difficult to get a drink.

Please hire a bartender. It is a liability to do self serve. A bartender will know when to cut people off, and it is better than having a guest accidsntlt over drink and get in an accident because they overdrank with no supervision

Bartenders have to have a license for a reason... hire a pro. In WA it is illegal to have a self serve bar (outside of your own home) a licensed bartender has to open every beverage/pour every drink, so I would make sure this is not the case for you too, as I would think this is not just a WA thing...

In Colorado you have to hire a licensed bartender or you have to obtain a liquor license yourself. I would be sure to check with your local laws. However, I'm on team, "hire a pro!" ETA - spelling

I believe you'd also have to get million dollar liability insurance. Which is far more expensive than hiring a bartender.
