You have the right strategy, get what you can done early on to alleviate the stress in any way possible.

Favor ideas-what would speak to you two as a couple that people could 1, find useful and 2, be a reminder of the unit that is you and your partner?
Same as the wedding party gifts, what speaks to you two as a couple? Useful gifts and favors are a nice touch in my opinion.
Are you doing your own flowers? Live or fake? Consider sales of going with fake, you can find big savings just by monitoring craft store ads. You can also get those knocked out early on too.
I found the budgeting aspect of this site to be helpful, there are things I forgot to think about and also things we decided were not for us that we dismissed.
Hope the wedding planning is painless and stress free ..

    1. Be mindful that if you are doing DIY dΓ©cor, you still need a setup and breakdown crew for before and after the wedding. That is my dilemma now. I need breakdown assistance. Relying on family is what I'll have to do, but ensuring they aren't too drunk to help afterwards is important. We may still hire some crew help, but not sure yet.

    2. Also, don't be so stuck on doing everything DIY. It is stressful having to think of decorating on the same day as having to get yourself together.

    3. Get your partner more involved in planning. You may be doing a ton of planning only to find out your partner may not even like your ideas. It's their day too.

    4. Get a partial wedding planner to help. Ours has helped tremendously!!

I'm a 2024 bride. I started early and yes I am planning alone. My hubby is a part of the process as I need him to be. I asked him was it anything that has to be and I included that. Book your venue and everything else will follow. He wanted drones I booked drones. He wanted certain food. I made sure. Wedding Tik tok is definitely your friend. I did my save the dates om etsy. Etsy is also your best friend. You don't need people telling you what and what not to spend your money on. You got this. We dreamed as Lil girls on how out wedding will be. You got this...

No in the search engine put in anything from wedding entrances to wedding diy, or just wedsing tik tok. The best of it all will come up. Everyday I slim thru about an hour worth of videos. I don't regret it. I've learned a ton of dos and donts

Ugh I'm doing it all myself too and I'm so overwhelmed! I got my dress and venue but now I've hit a wall. I know nothing about photographers/djs/hair and makeup artists etc. Following this!

You can find all these vendors (catering, photographer) on wedding wire and the knots by sending messages for a quote. I did all of these by myself also even I have a wedding planner. It's best to for you to pick all those important vendors on your own that fits your budget and taste

Hey Marie... breathe sis. You got this. Wedding wire is great with vendors, I hired several through them (and no I do not work for WW lol). Read reviews, listen to the people. Go with your budget. Prioritize what is most important to you. Some things we can look back and say Im glad I spent the extra money on... YOLO baby. Make it the best day ever!!

There is a website called aisleplanner you can get. It will help you stay on track with a checklist, arrange your tables and layout of your venue, upload your guest list with dietary restrictions and remind you of when your payments are due. I highly recommend. It helps me keep everything in one place and you can even upload photo inspiration and take notes if you and your vendors have been going back and forth.

We are doing everything ourselves too. Well, I feel like I'm doing most of it because my fiancΓ© is a teacher, and she is always busy. Of course, I run things by her and she is grateful that I'm handling things really well. Do you have any bridesmaids or maid of honor? If so, they can really help make things a little easier for you. They can take a few things off your plate. You are definitely not crazy for starting now lol I started planning before I was even engaged hahaha! We booked our venue before engagement too. Our wedding isn't until June 1 2024 !

I have used "thumbtack" to look for vendors. Maybe try that. I also follow a page on Facebook for my area where ppl offer their services. Try looking for something like that in your area. You'll be amazed at what you can find.

I also got engaged in February 2023. Wedding May 18, 2024. I am also self planning. My FH is involved as much as possible. It's a stressful journey that's for sure. I have the DJ and photographer booked. Just talked to the lady yesterday about my cake , just gotta pay the deposit. The venue is in the works. We know where we want it and we have talked to the on the phone, suppose to go tonight to check everything out. we are having our wedding and reception at the local Shrine Club. I have been to a friends wedding there and it was really nice. FH has never been on the inside of it. So we shall see how that goes tonight. I just ordered my MOH and BM's robes last night. I am making them a gift box with a few fun things for them to use the day of and at my bachelorette party and a few things they can keep as a keepsake. Congratulations and Happy Planning.

I'm not sure if this will help, but I personally am having a terrible time finding a florist (our wedding in a little over 2 months). I either can't get them to respond back or when I do make a phone appointment I never hear from them. I'm going to look at a local place for a bouquet but to keep things cheaper and not worry so much about it I'm doing wooden flowers. I found there's several sites that make good ones and they use a wood softener to make them look more authentic by making them more flexible. I ordered a table centerpiece during one of their sales as a tester to see what it would look like in person and I loved it! You don't have to go super fancy, and fake flowers are totally an option. I'm hand making some decorations to cut down on cost. My one piece of advice (because I'm planning my own wedding too, mainly cause my fiance wants me to be happy with it, don't get me wrong though, he is totally cool with helping and has been a big help) is to put majority of the focus and energy on the things you really care about, for me, I'm a big foodie, so catering had to be spot on. I did a lot of hunting but found an amazing one, and yes its more costly than my venue, but that doesn't bother me cause I've done the tasting and its wonderful (plus they were able to package in rentals). Hope your wedding goes great. Looking to hopefully put final planning touches on mine this month.

I helped do my sister's 2 years ago. I got stuff off fb marketplace, used wedding dress from resell store. I bought foam stuck fake flowers in them. Wrapper pillars on string lights, we bought heated pans for food. Amazon silverware and plates. Etc.

    1. Yes. Don't share your vision with everyone only with two couples and no single women.

    2. On the invitation card write no plus one because everyone is going to ask you for a plus one.

    3. Make sure you get three quotes from different vendors because once you use the W word Wedding they will charge you more money.

    4. Remember this is your wedding not your friends or family.

    5. Make sure you complete everything 90 days before your wedding.

    6. Stay claim during the process because everyone is going to have an opinion.

    7. Enjoy the process.

    8. Congratulations.

Hi! I just had a question because we are also doing a lot of diy for my wedding. It’s cheaper and can guarantee that we really get the vision that we have. For your decorations such as the flowers and cutlery, are you using plastic? I wanted to do glass and china but if i bought it myself where would I put it afterwards? If using plastic, I could just throw it away. What are you plans ?

I know this feeling very well! It's essentially my partner and I doing everything ourselves. What helped me was to create a google sheet with tabs, the tabs had things like:
β€’ venues - I listed all venues of interest and kept track of tour dates and pricing until I chose one
β€’ guest list with names, addresses
β€’ to do/timeline guide with each month leading to wedding with tasks needed to be done
β€’ vendors, to keep track of who we booked and when deposits were due and their contact info

The spreadsheet has helped but also apps like zola and the knot! They have checklists but I found their vendor search resources the most helpful for messaging prospective vendors, since the message template would also be the same and from there it'd be a matter of waiting for response and getting a sense of pricing for each etc.
