Seeing your grooms tux

Katie, on March 29, 2022 at 7:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 10
Is it bad luck to see your grooms tux before the big day? We ordered his tux online because of our specific wedding color and I want to see it but don’t know if that goes along with not seeing the wedding dress too!

I have never heard of it being that but I suspect this may vary depending on cultural beliefs.

I personally went shopping with my now-husband for his tux.

I don’t think it’s the same. I’ve never heard of it before. However my fiancé won’t let me see him in his though🙄 he said he wants to surprise me like I’m surprising him lol

Never heard of that. Even if you do see it, it has nothing to do with the longevity of your relationship. A dress and a suit look different on a real person vs the hanger, and even with the full ensemble vs one piece. Don’t worry about it.

^ I agree with everyone! No such thing as bad luck. I am actually picking out the tux 😅

Personally, I don’t think it’s “bad luck” to see the tux or the dress prior to the ceremony. The only reason it was considered “bad luck” is because back in the old days marriages were arranged; and if the groom saw the bride prior to the wedding he might not find her pretty enough and not go through with the wedding (yuck). It’s actually a very antiquated and icky tradition with zero merit today. So if he wants you to see the tux (or him see your dress) don’t worry about - it holds absolutely no bearing on the length or happiness of your marriage.

I never heard of this. We went together to pick out his suit. Although he already had an idea of what he wanted. I showed him my initial dress and he hated it so thank god I did.

I've never heard of this custom, and in fact I'm going with him to pick everything out (we'll be picking out the ties for his groomsmen that time as well). He doesn't want to see my dress (or anything to do with my dress) until the day (though we are doing first looks to get some photos done first).

I agree with Cece, I don't think its "bad luck" with anyone seeing any outfit beforehand. Traditions like those that hold over from very different times can be fun (surprising your partner in your wedding outfit, or spending the night apart) but they don't make or break a marriage. I'm personally going about them as just fun things to do. He wants to be surprised, cool! We're spending the night apart so my bridesmaids and I can do face masks and watch RomComs and drink champagne, while he and his groomsmen can hang out and drink beer and do their thing. Same way we're treating out respective bachelor/bachelorette parties as a fun night with our friends and not our "last night of freedom".

Traditions are fun if they mean something to you, not if they are imposing some sort of curse on you if you don't adhere to them perfectly.

I have never heard about it being bad luck. I went to my husband's fitting because he knew I would have opinions on all of his accessories (shirt color, shoes, tie, pocket square, etc.). Sure enough, I did! It was a lot of fun for us.
