Seeds thrown?

dhaddan, on December 9, 2009 at 10:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

My theme for my wedding is Fall and Sunflowers. We were thinking of the guest throwing sunflower seeds at us when we walk out of the church. Is this a good idea? Would it hurt? Is it legal? (I heard a rumor, birds aren't aloud to have salt or they would get really bad sick, could be false but hey)

Saltless seeds are better as far as the birds go. Sunflower seeds are high in fat which is good for birds. IF it was the only thing in their diet, eventually they would be bad but as far as throwing them at a wedding and some birds getting some, they will be fine Smiley smile

I meant they are high in fat and are not good BUT being as it is NOT the only thing the wild birds will be eating, it will be fine.

I'd suggest asking the church or check your contract w/ them to see what's allowed. There's always someone who has to clean up after, seeds could be an issue if they blow natural materials into nearby flower beds as our venue does, since the seeds will sprout (petals dry up/compost).

If you decide not to do this but still want sunflower seeds, I saw a really cute idea once for wedding favors. Each guest got a little satchel of sunflower seeds with an attached tag that says something like "He loves me, he loves me not, he loves me, we've tied the knot!" This was really cute, fairly cheap, and fits with your theme rather well.
