Security and alcohol??

Brittny, on March 21, 2017 at 12:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

I was just quoted that the security for the hall will be $35 per hour for each security guard. Since we have over 100 people we are required to have 2 from when alcohol is served till the end of the night. Now it ends up adding up to almost $500, which seems a bit much but I'm for it so long as there is alcohol. Some family members think it's crazy and say I should hire the family cops for the night or don't bother at all having alcohol. I don't agree and rather cough up the $500. Any thoughts? How much is security for you if your required to have that?

This is pretty standard. I would pay no question.

I would pay. Our Security is $30 per hour for 2 guards from the time we start serving alcohol until the end of the reception.

Double check the security. I have seen several security guards at local theaters and malls that were elderly and so overweight that I could have knocked them down.

Pay. Alcohol is a must and you don't want to hire family.

That sounds reasonable I love in Louisiana we are paying 20.00 per hour per guard

    That seems ridiculous to me.

I know places like my venue (a museum) require security for every event. Ours is $300 for the whole night. seems like the standard

In Los Angeles County, most venues require security when alcohol is being served. We have friends in law enforcement and the military, but our venue uses a private security company. I wish we only had to pay $35/hour. Ours required 2 security guards for every 75 guests and charged a flat rate of $250 per staff.

Our venue requires security if alcohol is served, and we have to hire the off duty officers approved by the venue. Actually, all 4 of the venues I looked at had this requirement. We are also paying $35 per hour and having 2 officers, so I think that quote is fine.

We were required to provide security. I think it was $50/hr for 2 guards. Around here, that is pretty standard. That was the entire night. We bundled the service with the valet and they knocked a bit of the price off.

There's no limit of people per cop for me. I just have to pay for one and he's 20 bucks an hour. We're having a late ceremony so there's only gonna be 6 hours of actual drinking time.

Our venue required the same thing. 1 sheriff for every 100 people while alcohol is served. We knew about this requirement when we signed the venue contract, and that should have been on yours too.

It was $35/hr plus tip (don't forget that).

I would definitely serve alcohol and hire the two that you need. And I definitely wouldn't hire a family member to work the wedding.

Is this a regional thing? I have never heard of being required to hire security...we won't have security at our reception.

@Sept I believe it has to do with your state's liquor laws. All venues I have looked into in my area require a licensed bartender and security if you serve alcohol.

I looked at one venue that required we pay for security (even without alcohol). It seemed weird to me, but they told me that they've had frequent wedding crashers and thus they required it.
