Secular wedding ritual?

Julie Beth, on August 8, 2020 at 10:54 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12
Neither me or my fiancé are religious. We don't practice anything, but would still like to have a ritual at the end. I like the idea of pouring the different color sands into one jar. Thoughts? Any ideas for something we could do?

I think that’s fine! Unity ceremonies don’t have to be religious or anything like that.

There are so many options for unity ceremonies. You can even come up with your own that’s specific to the two of you. But a quick google search will result in many ideas. Here’s a link to a few: https://www.confetti.co.uk/wedding/ceremonies/alternative-unity-ceremony-ideas/

Unity rituals within the ceremony don't have religious connotations unless you include a religious reading with it. You're only limited by your imagination and they are optional too since the vows are often considered to be unity ritual.

I've seen a ton of ideas online, mainly at offbeatbride.com. You can paint something together, combine anything in a container (glow stick fluid, potions with dry ice for the geeks, make and share a pb&j or a cocktail of your choice, make a bowl of guacamole, plant a tree depending on the location, handfasting, etc etc). The options are unlimited.

My FH and I are doing a unity glass ceremony along with our three kids. We will combine the different glass colors then send it back to the company who will make a sculpture from our color combination and send it back. We love the idea of having a sculpture to display.

    We’re not religious either.
We are doing a simple hand fasting at the end of our ceremony. I’m actually really excited about it.
I saw it done once at a friend’s wedding (who despite being Catholic didn’t do a Catholic mass for their wedding... thank you Kevin and Michelle!)Each color in the ribbon is symbolic and before the ceremony, we are supposed to braid the ribbons together (although I’ll probably end up having to do it myself. I don’t think he knows how to braid). And then the officiant will tie our hands together. It is basically another unity ceremony like the sand or wine or candles. ❤️

Oh wow we did something like Kimberly! Our officiant found us this website where you can order little pieces of glass in colors that you choose. Then on the wedding day we combined the glass together, she sent it back to the company and we got back beautiful ornaments to cherish forever. Secular wedding ritual? 1

    Hello!😊

FH and I are not having a religious ceremony either. We are doing a unity candle, and we're including our mothers. Basically symbolizing how from being two individuals we're uniting into one and our separate families will also be united

I saw one yesterday online for blended families where everyone pours their favorite unwrapped candy into a jar together.
