Second Thoughts on Dress?

Alliyah, on December 3, 2019 at 12:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Has anyone ever had second thoughts on their wedding dress? I love the dress, "But" (lol) it's sooo different that I ever tried on that I want to make sure I'm making the correct decision. I was granted the opportunity to get a free dress and I felt that I needed to say yes to the dress because it was free. I have been a ball gown/cinderella girl my whole life and ended with a mermaid dress. I wasn't able to try on a variety of gowns, especially ball gowns, so I'm left wondering and having the "What If" mentality. It's so frustrating. I made a solo appointment at an actual bridal shop with just myself and my MOH. I can't have everyone's opinions in my head by bringing a big group. Has anyone run into the dilemma?

I returned the first dress that I bought and went the complete opposite direction. The first dress was beaded , very detailed, super bulky train, long nude sleeves and a line. The second dress is off the shoulder, lace, very fitted mermaid styles with a low back and light detachable train. The first dress I bought I was very insecure with my body and wanted to hide as much as possible but the style was just not me. The second dress is more my style and even though I am not at my goal weight I have more motivation to get there or at least tone up (4 1/2 months left ).

I also returned the first dress I bought. I can't tell you why I bought it other than it was like the 6th or 7th dress I'd tried and I wasn't happy with anyone. The last one I tried was the "best" so I got it because my fitting room attendant told me that not everyone has the "this is the one" moment and that the more dresses you try on, the more difficult it is to pick one. I wish I hadn't gotten it, but thankfully it all worked out. I returned it for a store credit, used that credit towards the bridesmaids dresses (so they just paid me directly), then was able to order a dress from Azazie with that money. The second dress I bought is a lot more like what I had originally wanted, but couldn't find at the bridal shop. If you have the option to return the dress you've already bought, I would definitely go try on some ballgowns and see if that's what you really want!

There is always a better dress we could all love. If you have the budget get what you want. I love my dress but with the black Friday sales I considered getting a new one but since it was a Final Sale dress I could only exchange for equal price or higher. I have wondered if I should have shopped more so I get it. I may one day exchange it since I have close to a year away lol. I do love my dress though but there is a lot of choices out there.

I didn't as far as the free dress part but I went to the shop I got my ball gown but I wanted to try another ball gown on to see if I made the right choice.. I didn't feel confident in the 2nd one so I made the right choice.. Now ques is for you were you giving the dress while you were at the store or someone you know had got a dress and gave it to you?

Funny story: owner of venue brought gowns from a city. If we booked the venue after the tour (fell in love with it) we were gifted a dress to take home. it was hard to pass but i just need to close the ball gown idea out my head to see if i made a right choice

Honestly, I thought I wanted a more fitted look until I tried one on. I would get the ballgown try on done so you can know if you truly want that style or not - I thought it would be too much but fell in love with the flow of the dress. You never know until you see it on you!

Lol, I just returned my dress for the second time 🤦. The first time, I was pushed into something I didn't want. When I found out I could exchange it, I jumped on the opportunity. FH and I picked out the next dress. It was nice.. This past black friday, my mom and I went accessory shopping and during that time, I fell in love with a dress from the spring 2020 collection. They just got the sample in 2 weeks ago. The sales manager told me if I loved that dress, she would over power the exchange. So 3rd times a charm lol. Advice for myself, no more going into bridal shops haha.

Make the appointment, and have your moment trying dresses on with your MOH! That’s one of the fun parts of being a bride! And if you find one you love, buy it! You won’t lose anything from a free dress. Or maybe you’ll love the free dress more after trying others on... Idk what the circumstances of the free dress were, but maybe if you return the free dress to whom ever gave it to you and say you found “THE ONE” they will understand, or ask if they wouldn’t mind you donating the dress to a foundation, like Brides Against Breast Cancer or something similar

I think I def had dress envy. Everytime I'd see other styles I'd think man it's so gorgeous ugh but then I'd go back to my gown and really love it too

The idea of there being “the one” and only dress is a bit extreme and unrealistic. Lol! Of course there will be multiple dresses that you love and that to look nice on you. The main thing is to just make a decision, be confident and content in your selection and move onto the next area of wedding planning.

I got one I liked. Well I lost weight and it looked awful on me. I tried it on so many times to see if maybe that would change. I found one online I loved and I ordered it... it came in and it was HUGE it looked like a had a sheet on me. I got it altered and now I love it. It’s what I want. I mean I would love a $20k gown that I found on Pinterest but I can’t afford that lol.
Sometimes you feel rushed to get a dress. I can’t tell you how many people tried to talk me out of my dresses. They for some reason wanted color and it to look like just a regular luau dress (getting married in Hawaii) I stood my ground and I’m very happy. If you are having second thoughts it never hurts to look around.
