Second Shooter--worth it?

I'd have the single photographer for 8 hours and have the option to add the second shooter for the same amount of time.

We are having 2.this way the getting ready shots with the guys and fields are happening at the same time.you also get a wider range of pics to choose from since every photographer has a different eye.

If your budget allows it then go for it.

We are also having a small wedding (80-90 people) and I knew from the beginning that a second shooter was a non-negotiable. We definitely wanted one to capture as many angles and shots as possible. Our photographer told us that often the second shooter can catch different angles or even shots the photographer didn't see because she was busy (candids and reactions). We also really liked the idea of having a photographer with the girls AND the guys as we're all getting ready.

Your wedding doesn't sounds very big, i would stick with just one shooter! I am a photographer and i usually don't recommend a second shooter unless over 100 guests.

Were having 100 guests and our photography package includes a second shooter. I like the idea of having two photographers to capture different moments/ angles at any given time

Yeah Jay we got ready 15 minutes apart - me at a hotel, DH at our house. How would you manage that?

How do you get shots of the cocktail hour while still getting family photos?

How do you get a shot of the first dance and my dad's reaction?

You don't. I'd be really wary of anyone who says 1 shooter is all they do, that's just so odd to me.

    I prefer 2.

Jay, you're coming off condescending again to the brides and photographers who choose to use second shooters for any reason.

we get it. it's not how you do it. but once again you're putting down everyone else as a result. and no i don't "appreciate your experience" as you said once before, because i find you smug, condescending and a jerk to so many people on these forums.

Plus i've checked out your work. i'm glad your clients are satisfied. i would not be, and would be glad i hired a second shooter (because we were always having a second shooter) no matter what if my photographer turned in what you consider finished product.

In favor of a second shooter. How can you be in two places at once Jay? I'm supposed to make sure no one does anything sweet or awesome while you're away in the other room? Yes, I'm one of *those* brides that doesn't want to miss a thing. I want a shot of FH's face as he sees me the first time, and I want a shot of me walking towards him at the same time. A 2nd shooter feels necessary to me to get all the moments I'd like to remember.

Our getting-ready places are also more than 15 minutes apart. Kind of need a backup.

A second shooter is always ideal but not necessary. If you can make it work within your budget, go for it.

I'm not a photographer, obviously, but I almost always see two unless it's a very small/very short wedding. If you are expecting getting ready photos in different locations, two shooters is a no brainer. If you have a large group and you want formal shots and candids, yes, two is better.

Hey Jay who doesn't work with assistants. Why is this attached to your WW account? What happened to your assistant?

Not too mention you're telling potential clients ON THIS SITE you have an assistant, yet you're saying you don't. That is false advertising. Good job.

I'm all in for having a 2nd shooter. One can't possibly capture all the moments, unless you are having a super small wedding.

If capturing all the moments are important to you and you can afford it, of course, two shooters is ideal. Photography wasn't super important to me, I negotiated a smaller than standard package with my photographer which limited duration, location and just a single shooter.
