Unless it's an ethnic thing, I wouldn't want to not only waste the money, look like weirdo in front of your friends and family (I'd be confused why you changed into a different dress), and spend even more time away from your guests to get out of and change into the other dress. It's not worth it.

I could go either way. I'm still searching out my dress. I know I will wear that dress for the ceremony and our reception. I am planning on getting a second dress for our after-party just because we're going to a few clubs. I'm not spending more than $50 on the after-party dress.

It would stress me out to have to worry about finding 2 dresses! I put a deposit down on my dress, and my mom generously offered to pay off the balance. I would feel horrible changing out of my beautiful gown that my mom paid off for me! I feel like it's be a slap in the face to her. I love my dress too much to change before the reception.

I'm not against the idea myself, but I would only do it for certain reasons.

if it was a matter of having to cut your dress budget in half rather than get one amazing dress, then I wouldn't do it.

I heard of one case where a relative offered a dress for the bride to wear and she loved it, but wanted to wear another. so he wore the borrowed dress as a second dress.

Our ceremony is going to be around 15 minutes, maybe a half hour tops. It seems totally crazy to me to spend all that money on a dress, and heck even just the TIME of shopping for it and having it altered (because I've spent HOURS standing in that thing in the seamstress shop), only to wear it for less than an hour and change into something else. Esp when you consider that most 2nd dresses are less "bridal" and more just fancy dresses. Most of what I've seen on them, it's either a less formal white dress or just a cocktail dress that doesn't even look bridal and that you could wear a month later to any other event. Now that's just my opinion and if doing a second outfit is going to make a bride feel more awesome on her day then that's great. It would just feel bad to me because I wouldn't want to take my dress off for anything!
