Second Line but not in New Orleans

Kayla, on March 7, 2018 at 9:43 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
Ok so I’m from a Mobile, Alabama, the original birth place of Mardi Gras. Although New Orleans is probably more widely known for it. Anyways bc New Orleans and Mobile have so many similarities (both founded by the same guy) we wanted to have a Second Line parade in downtown Mobile. We thought this would be a fun surprise for our guests, especially the out of town guests who’ve never even heard of it. The problem, I guess, is that our wedding ceremony and reception venue are the exact same place. So my question is, would it be silly to have a second line that just goes around the block? It’s only 0.3 miles to circle the block and end up back at the venue. Google maps says a 5 min walk. I think it works perfectly bc it’s something for our guests and us to do during the cocktail hour (we’re having all pictures done before the ceremony). And hopefully the band can lead us right back into the ballroom for the reception.
Thoughts?

I'm doing a second-line (in New Orleans) entirely on the property of my venue in order to save money on the police and permit, so I say go for it! It will be slower than regular walking anyway. You can go around a couple times and then have the band play for the crowd a bit in the ballroom.

That’s what I’m doing for my wedding (in New Orleans). We’ll circle around the venue for about a 20 minute parade, which will also give the venue time to flip the space from ceremony to reception (basically just moving the chairs from the ceremony inside to the dining tables)

I have no real advice but I just need to say that I absolutely LOVE going to Mobile for Distinguished Young Women. Best wishes 😊
