Second Hand Veils

Katharine, on January 6, 2020 at 2:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 23

Hi Friends!

After overspending on my dress (8k eeek) I am looking to conserve a bit on the veil. The place that I bought my dress want 1.5-2k for the veil. I know that its possible to buy second hand dresses- anyone have a good website for second hand veils?

Thank you Smiley smile

You could buy a brand new veil for waaaayyyy less than that. I would check on Etsy.com as well as Amazon! I got my chapel length veil on Amazon for $30 and I love it Smiley smile

Not sure about secondhand, but check out Bridals by Teri on Etsy. Super good quality and not expensive at all

I'd look into Blanca Veils, I got my custom veil there for $60 and it was perfect! I ordered her sample kit to pick the tulle that best matched my dress and then she made it! It was even delivered early.

Yeah you can find a new one for a lot less than you think. Amazon is great, Etsy is great, and even David's Bridal has customizable veils now starting at about $50. Or you can always make one if you're crafty!

I agree with Cherry on looking into making your own if you are interested in trying. I made my own veil using tulle fabric ($2 for 2 yards of sparkle tulle fabric, $0.50 for hair comb, $2 for transparent nylon thread, and $15 for a sparkle bracelet to attach as bling decoration on the comb). It took me less than an hour to make it and I have no idea how to sew. YouTube videos walked me through it easily.

Shikes! If you are looking for a simple, cut edge veil there are some great inexpensive options on Amazon with really good reviews. If you wants something with a bit of something extra (lace, pearls, beading) check out Etsy. There are some gorgeous veils on there under $200 for cathedral length.

You can also look on Poshmark for used veils. I bought my dress used (so I LOVE saving on pre-worn merch) but would caution against buying a used veil, especially anything that touches the floor. Because veils are made of tulle they are typically pretty delicate and I've noticed that chapel length and longer veils I've found pre-worn online often have a small tear somewhere.

If you end up getting a veil online, you'll want a way to steam it because it will definitely have wrinkles/folds from being packed and shipped.

There are so many options that won't cost a fortune if you're not looking for complicated. I have a tulle dress so I'm looking at very simple, single layer veils. I'm looking at both Bridals by Teri and Blanca Veils, both on Etsy. I have sample's coming from each to see which matches best with my dress.

I don't want the veil to take away from my dress so I'm opting for simple is better. My dress doesn't have a really long train, so the plan is to have a long veil instead. Then I'll take the veil off for the reception!

Your dress is stunning! Honestly, I'd probably opt for a simple, one layer veil! I think it would accent your dress and would be super flowy for fun pictures after. If you wanted to get fancy, you could look for someone who could make a veil with a similar applique on it to add texture. But again, the focus should be your dress (in my mind). I only want the veil for pictures haha.

And I totally understand the trying not to faint! My budget was $1,000 for everything (veil, alterations, etc.) and I went over on the dress alone. My FH was super understanding though so it worked out!

This is the dress I got ( here ) and this is the style of veil I'm looking at ( here )! I'm not sure if I'll do Chapel length or Cathedral so that's still up for debate!

I spent $15 on mine from amazon. Etsy also had some good options. I'd recommend either a plain veil or something with very simple lace around the edges. Dont want to take away from your dress too much!

I second this! I bought my sweep-length sheer veil for only $35 and it was soft and beautiful. Order the white samples to get the right shade for your gorgeous dress.
