Second hand dress shopping?

Hi everyone, I love the idea of a second hand dress. Such a good deal AND sustainable! And with alternations, I feel like it could still be "mine".

But I really want the experience of going to a real bridal salon, and trying them all on and having a shop assistant help me.

Does anyone know of any salons that sell second hand dresses? In either NYC (or jersey) or Boston? Or any ideas for a compromise?

I know my seamstress (it's also a bridal shop) had dresses that were secondhand and some of them were absolutely gorgeous. Maybe see if theres a business like that in your area?

I’m in CT and I found a few consignment shops that specialize in bridal that I plan to check out. I haven’t been yet, but it sounds like you can still make a bridal appointment and a consultant will help you look through what they have in stock. You could also go to a traditional bridal shop and once you know the exact dress you want you can look for it second hand online on websites like stilwhite.

I'm in the Midwest so I can't help with places to go, but I still say I bought my dress secondhand and paid easily less than 1/4 of the original Price and I LOVE it. It was also my easiest, most fun boutique shopping experience at the secondhand place

I got the best of both in that I went to salons to try on dresses and get a feel for what I liked and then bought second hand online. I ended up finding the same exact dress that I loved at the store for $200 less online. But I also know a girl that found her dress second hand by just going around to seamstresses and asking if they had dresses that they were selling, apparently its pretty common.
