Second Guessing Venue...

Brooke, on May 23, 2019 at 10:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

I booked a venue and put down a $2000 deposit only a week after I got engaged. However, we are having a 15 month engagement and since then my wedding vision has changed. I stumbled upon a different venue that I absolutely love. I feel like I could make the booked venue work but I can't get the other venue out of my mind. Any suggestions? Still 11 months to the wedding and no other real plans have been made yet.

Is the deposit completely nonrefundable? If so, I think it depends on your budget and whether or not you can lose the $2k. I personally couldn't stomach it; however I'm super frugal and wasn't willing to spend past a certain amount on my wedding. If you can lose the 2k without it being too bad, it's something to consider. What does your FH think?

Did you already sign a contract for the first venue? Since you put down a 2k deposit, would they reimburse the deposit or a partial deposit?
If they wouldnt be able to reimburse you, i personally would not book with another venue. I personally could not even imagine or afford wasting 2k lol. Id say check your contract and check with the first venue and see if they can give you the money back....some contracts state that if you cancel no matter how far away the wedding is, that they require you to pay everything! Make sure to check the contract if you have one

I would say if you can get your $2,000 back- go for the other one. We put $750 down on our and the only way it was refundable is if he could book that date with another couple. If not, he would keep deposit. So I would say go for it as long as you get your money back.

It really depends on if the deposit is non-refundable and what the cancellation policy is. Are you wedded to the booking minimum if you cancel, do you still need to pay all the deposits? Since your wedding is still far out the sooner you communicate with your venue the more flexible they may be. An option might be to turn your deposit into another event celebration (engagement party, day after wedding breakfast). Wishing you the best of luck!

I would definitely check with the venue you booked and review your contract if you signed one. Depending on when you cancel, and other circumstances, your deposit may or may not be refundable. Many times, if you sign a contract and put a deposit down, it is not refundable. You might be able to get it back if you're far enough away from your date, but it probably depends on the venue and their policies.
