Second Dress for the Vow Renewal?

Mai, on May 24, 2021 at 4:44 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 11

We just celebrate our 10th year Anniversary.

Even though I kept my weeding dress, it didn't fit me. So I got a more simple and comfortable dress.

How many of you kept the Wed dress?

Does it fit you still after so many years?

Will you plan on keep it to pass it along to your daughters?

OMG, definitively you made my day :-)

As I said, I couldn't fit in my wedding dress... having a daughter changed a bit my body and soul.

I normally take good care of myself but I think the make up artist helped a lot.

It's important to have a professional doing it, so you can smile with confidence.

I would have believed if you'd said this was only your 5th anniversary!

I actually quite like that you went for a totally different "feel" for your vow renewal dress.

I did keep my wedding dress, though more out of not really knowing what to do with it than for posterity. I don't have/am not having children, and I didn't have it preserved in a box. Currently, it hangs in my closet. I am considering having a handkerchief made from its lace, so that it can be a "something borrowed" for my friends' children (I have several very beloved friends whose future children will also be very beloved to me, and I would love to have something that can be lent to them on their special days.)

And I do still fit in it, but I don't plan to wear it a second time. I have a completely different aesthetic than I did then - we are coming up on twenty years, after all. I don't think it's a surprise that I have a very different style now! My wedding dress was a strapless, organza slim A-line with beaded lace appliques, and the gown style I am looking at for our vow renewal is either sheath or mermaid, with straps, minimalist (very little or no embellishment - I would be fine with beaded straps), and probably in crepe.

You look great! So, I definitely won’t keep my dress. It’s either getting sold or donated. This is my second marriage and I donated my prior dress to my church’s thrift store about 6 months after the wedding. I’m also not one who would pass the dress down. As exciting as it is to search for and find a wedding dress, I’d never want to take that experience away from my daughter (and I especially wouldn’t want her to wear an out dated wedding gown) LOL!.

    Dear Eniale,

Certainly 10 years has come and gone :-)

For the Vow Renewal I wanted something comfortable, a bit loose that allows me to dance and walk around easily.

I also kept my wedding dress hanging in my closet (not preserved, nor in a box) and it remained intact but didn't fit me any more.

Now I'm considering getting a Dust Proof Breathable Cover Storage Bag so I can preserve them both for my daughter or niece (in case they want it in the future)

Definitively with time, our priorities and fashion style change a bit. So for your big Vow Renewal be sure you look and feel amazing!!!!

Congratulations on the BIG 20th Anniversary!!! A huge milestone, well deserved celebration!!!!!

    Sexypoodle,

Thank you for the compliment :-) You all made my day!!!!

I initially kept my wedding dress not knowing I would wanted to fit in again on my vow renewal celebration. But unfortunately, I didn't fit in. So here I was after 10 years, on the search for dresses again. It was beautiful to be able to share the experience with my daughter Mia. She is only 8 years old, and seeing the sparkle in her eyes made me think of her big day as well. I will keep both dresses and give her the option of wearing them any time in the future, if she want it to.

I love the vintage era and I would've say YES to my Mom dress if she would've kept it. So who knows what Mia will do in the future? Whatever she decide to do, I'll be there every step of the way :-)
