Seating name cards but no big sign

on August 26, 2021 at 4:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
I’ll probably have about 80 people at my wedding with 8-10 tables. Is it really that annoying for people to walk around and find their name on a card at their seat? I’m picturing people would already be hanging out with who they’re sitting with so once one person spots their name then the whole group can find theirs easily. Or should I just do the “escort card” idea with their names and table numbers, then they take it to their table? I like the idea of choosing which seat people sit at vs. just the table. I don’t really want to do a big “find your seat” chart.

Do escort cards so people aren't slowed down crowding around the same tables.

If you want to have place cards, you need to also have escort cards. This makes it much easier for guests to find their tables and get seated more quickly and efficiently.

I would think your guests might find this annoying. Etsy has tons of customizable templates for seating charts and they are super cheap and you can get them printed at Walmart and toss it in a cheap frame, easy on you and your wallet, and easy on your guests!

Lol I think you are right. I might just suck it up and make a seating chart display and then have the place cards already at the table

In most situations a big sign causes more stress than it alleviates. They are often done with a font that is difficult to read (the current trendy fonts are not easy for everyone to read) , names are very small so people have to crowd in and then they forget their assignments on the way to the tables when they get caught in conversations. It’s much easier to have colored (according to meal choice with list for the caterer) escort cards with names on the outside and assignments on the inside sorted alphabetically. They just find their name, grab the card and go which is is so much easier.

Also please let them pick the chair they sit in. There really is no reason to assign the chair unless you have one long table for everyone.

I would do the escort cards. i think 80 is a lot for people to be wandering around to every table to find their name vs being at the guest sign in table an finding their name there

Why are you assigning seats? Assigned tables do the job and people can sit next to who they want

We’re doing place cards with no chart but with 30 guests. I would recommend an usher to show guests to their seats.

We’re doing escort carts but not assigning seats. People can choose who they want to sit next to at the table, we are assigning seats.

We're also assigning seats, since our tables are bigger than usual and our guests speak 4 different languages, so we want everyone to sit next to someone they know and can easily communicate with... And there are 2-3 people who sometimes have to be "managed" and I want them next to someone who they listen to. I've also thought about leaving out the sitting plan (we will need two posters because it won't all fit on one, so it's a bit ugly and will crowd the entrance area) but then we went to see our venue again and I imagined walking around this huge room, between tables, in pretty clothing and uncomfortable shoes, searching for your seat... People can sometimes arrive for whatever reason and they should be able to find their seat quickly. I also can't imagine sending grandma and grandpa on a wild search through this huge room, they won't be able to read the name cards unless they're right in front of them. Awkward. So, we've decided to do those two charts, even though I would prefer not to have them in the entrance area.
