Seating charts - family input?

Christine, on October 7, 2019 at 5:09 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
Hey everyone! I made the mistake today of bringing up the seating chart to my mom, who is very OCD. Our wedding is a month away, and we have a majority of our RSVPs back, so I started brainstorming a seating chart today. I brought up my ideas to her, and she completely shot them down and got very angry with me about who needs to sit with who. Did your parents (mother, father, or grooms parents) give any input into the seating chart? Any parents who were extremely insistent upon having an input? I ultimately ended up telling my mother (which she didn’t take so kindly) that if she was going to be so insistent then she could put the seating chart together.

I asked my MIL to review H's side after we had completed it. She's very specific about stuff sometimes so it was nice to have her input. I did ask my mom who she wanted to sit with (in-laws, her family, dad's family, etc?). I wanted their input for their tables and their families tables. Everyone else was for me and H to decide.

I asked mine who their guests should be sitting with just because I wouldn't know who would click and who wouldn't.

My husband created the seating chart since he has a bigger family and more friends. He didn't ask input from anyone, but me. We didn't want anyone trying to tell us where they wanted to sit so we didn't bother even asking our family or friends for their input.

My daughters asked for my feedback, who we wanted at our table, who to sit certain family members with, etc.. Once they completed their charts, they had me look it over.

My daughter and future son in law actually requested both parents help on our guest list part of the wedding. They will figure out their friends and coworkers seats.

It sounds like she's being really unreasonable about the seating arrangement...and I think you're right, if she's going to be so nitpicky about it then she should do it herself...one less thing for you to worry about.

My family isn't accustomed to seating arrangements, so I don't really have anyone to ask for advice/help in that dept. I wasn't going to do one originally, but w/ recent events, I decided to be petty & come up w/ one kinda last minute (our wedding is 10/26) so that the people who show up uninvited or who didn't RSVP know I'm salty about it...but I think putting together the seating arrangement is stressing me out more than everything else. Smiley amazing
