Seating Chart

Emaline, on November 8, 2021 at 6:45 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9

I've been looking at types of seating charts/seating organizational systems. I really like the simplicity of a poster (150 guests- font size 24 for names).

This may be self explanatory, but what do you do for an A-Z chart when there are no people with last names which begin with certain letters? I'm afraid it would look weird if I left those letters out completely.

In the image below they combined the X&Y, which doesn't look bad at all, but with my guest, I don't have any with an H, O, U, V, X, Z, so more than one combos might look a bit funny.

Or would little tent place cards with table numbers be easier? Any fun suggestions on organizing, besides putting them next to the welcome table in A-Z order? Thanks in advance!!!

The tent cards are much easier from a guest perspective, especially if you have 150 people trying to crowd around a poster. With the cards, I often snag mime before the ceremony even starts so that I can avoid the rush and just have it in my purse. Plus, guests can refer back to it much easier if they get distracted by conversation or whatever on there from the table/poster to their tables. And it allows them to claim their space at the table once there if they want to drop their stuff and go get a drink or use the restroom. When I'm at a wedding with a seating chart, I always end up having to go back at least once because I blank on what table number I just read.

Thank you! I never thought of that issue of crowding and possible inconvenience, I definitely don't want it to be a hassle for people and I can totally see myself having to refer back at least once just to be sure, which can be a lot if there are 150 guests Smiley smile

I agree with Hannah. Having escort cards is much easier as a guest.

As a bonus, it's easier for you to make last minute changes if you need to (someone all of a sudden can't come - that kind of thing).

From a guest perspective, the posters are a huge headache and tent cards are way better. Just organize them alphabetically so guests can find their names quickly, grab and go. There are so many headaches associated with the posters: the fonts are often difficult to read with certain font choices and sizes so they cause traffic jams, and people forget their assignments when they get sidetracked on the way with conversations.

The other benefit of tent cards is that if you are having a plated meal, caterers require a coding system for waiters to tell from a distance what each guest ordered. Rubber stamps and stickers can’t be seen except up close, so solid colored card stock to differentiate each meal choice is ideal. It doesn’t cost extra to do so on Etsy or wherever you purchase the card stock tent cards.

Also, if you need to move anyone last minute or make typos, tent cards are so much cheaper. With a poster, each reprint is expensive and the tent cards don’t cost that much in comparison.

Tent cards also help catering staff if you have plated meals. They know who gets what and can be prepared better

I used a poster just like that and i can't exactly remember whether or not i combined some letters or just still listed some under each letter individually. i DO see the appeal of only doing escort cards if you've got a small amount of people but i had 250 so i think something with a larger amount of people should be a poster like that too

I've made a few of these before and normally the letters that you don't have names for are excluded. It totally is up to you whether you think doing individual cards are worth the time or not, but I do think they're a bit easier for guests to find. Whatever you do, please don't make a seating chart by table, or worse, one by table without the individual table lists alphabetized!

I agree with Jessi! I'd just skip the letters you don't have any names for!!
