Seating chart

Mary, on December 8, 2019 at 7:46 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
I Am toying with the idea of no seating chart. My entire wedding is just about having fun and celebrating with the people we love. So I need thoughts and opinions. Has anyone gotten married and not used one? How did it go?

How big of a guest list do you have? If you have about 20 or so guests, than you can probably get away with it. However, assigning tables makes the process significantly easier for guests. You can find multiple threads on the forum about this. When there are no assigned tables, families may have a hard time finding seats together, your elderly grandmother may end up sitting all the way in the back by the speakers, etc. You don't necessarily have to have a whole big fancy seating chart. I bought a blank pack of tent cards from avery for about $12 and printed escory cards at home using a free template from their website. The whole process took about 2 hours (assigned tables and creating/printing the escort cards). That 2 hours saved our guests a lot of hassle and ensured that people got to sit with their loved ones and friends.

With 75 people I would definitely assign tables.

I would say it partially depends on your venue and what kind of meal you’re having. We’re required to have one because we’re having a plated dinner! I’m a teacher and am already so sick of making seating charts this year (these children...), but it’s necessary for us!

We didn't do a seating chart and it worked out just fine for us! I'm glad we didn't do one because we had about 20 - 30 who RSVP'd yes and then didn't show up so we would have had so many holes had we done a chart. The second reason we opted out of a seating chart was because my husband's parents are divorced so trying to place everyone on both of his sides was more of a headache than I wanted to try and deal with and third the adults should be able to decide who they can and can not sit beside for their own personal reasons.

Also we had a RSVP count of 130 and about 100 came and still no seating chart worked just fine for us.

    SEATING CHART!

Free for all’s lead to all sorts of drama! You can pick people who you know will have common interests to sit together- single or not.
Other wise you risk the clusters of people who won’t get up and do anything because they are too “wrapped up” in their table...

We totally didn’t want to have a seating chart (more so for a social experiment LOL 🤓). However, we’re doing a seated dinner and our caterer said we needed a chart for those who have allergies and special dietary restrictions. We’re not assigning seats though, just tables. If you’re doing a buffet I say no chart!!

We had 125 people and assigned seats & tables. I think the reception seating dictates the flow of how fun the reception is so it's important (in my opinion).

I'd also do assigned tables. I went to a wedding with about that many people, it does make it easier.
