I definitely think assigned tables are easiest, but not assigned seats. That way, guests can go find their tables, and still sort of choose who they want to sit by at that table. Typically, if there's no seating plan, people don't really seat themselves efficiently. They'll leave open seats, or pull too many chairs around one table, etc.

I agree with PP, if you don’t assign tables you will need to account for about 20% more tables, chairs, center pieces etc. since guests won’t seat themselves efficiently. I always vote seating chart. So much easier for you and your guests.

We weren't going to do one because of the hassle, but after attending a wedding that didn't have one...we've decided it's a must for us. We (along with maaany others) didn't sit from the ceremony till the sparkler send-off. So my feet were SORE.

Like PP mentioned above, table charts are easier to create and still serve the purpose their intended for which is giving everyone a table to sit out, and no one wondering where they need to go!

In my opinion, assigned tables is a must! It makes your reception flow much smoother and allows you to account for less tables and chairs.

I'm not even gonna attempt doing seating charts way too much of a hassle, but I'll be doing assigned tables instead. I'll simply be putting up signs in each table that say, "Reserved for the Bride's/Groom's Family and their Friends" and or "Reserved for the Friends of the Bride & Groom"

I’m doing seating charts because even though it’s a pain I want people who know each other to sit together. Otherwise there might be musical chairs and people who don’t have anyone to sit with. Seating charts also depend on the way you plan to serve food, if it is a plated dinner seating charts are sooo much easier, if not do whatever you feel is right!! 😊
