Seating Chart

Olivia, on July 26, 2020 at 10:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
Hi!!!! So I’m putting together my seating chart and have a quick question on what’s the right thing to put down for his name, do I put “Pastor” in front of his name or do I just have his name down on it? Just wondering the proper etiquette on this. Thanks!

I think you might need to post more context for your question, I wasn't super clear on the situation.

It depends on what his title is and if you're using titles for everyone else, if I'm understanding your question correctly

I would just put what he goes by normally.

I grew up Roman Catholic, and we always addressed any priest as Father. ie Father John, Father Mario etc. it was looked upon as disrespectful if we didn’t call them father so-and-so. Not sure if it’s different for pastors, but I think it’s still proper to address them as Pastor so-and-so. Even if they won’t be the actual pastor for your wedding, if it were my guest, I would still put Pastor so-and-so, but again this is just going off of my background growing up being Roman Catholic.

Minimally, I'd do Pastor ____, unless he is a close personal relative or friend, then I'd use his given name (if that's how you are addressing other guests' names). If you are using titles for other guests, like Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr., etc., then I'd double-check his official title and use that. Most pastors in my denomination are technically referred to as either Rev. Jones or Rev. Dr. Smith; although in conversation I'd address them as Pastor Tom. (If you're not sure, you might look on his church's website or a service folder to see how he is usually listed.)

If he's Catholic, he would be called Father ___. If he's Protestant (not Catholic), he would be Rev. LastName.
