Seating chart

Caitlyn, on November 1, 2019 at 5:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 16
I am having a wedding of 150ish people. Everywhere I look talks about a seating chart being necessary for plated dinners, but can’t seem to find any advice on a seating chart for a buffet! Any advice? We have reserved tables already for family and bridal party, and we’re planning on just assigning tables (not seats)
to our guests.

We are having a buffet also and it gives you more room to be flexible, u can totally just assign tables (would recommend) and not seats, nobody will mind and people can sit close to whoever they want , or u can assign both the tables and the seats depends what u want !

Assigned seating is too much work for me lol. I’m having a Buffett too and will be assigning tables. I know my family very well and I know what groups like to be with one another so that’s how I’m assigning seats.

I’m doing buffet as well. Only assigning tables. I thought about doing the seats as well but I honestly feel like as long as groups are together that should be enough. Plus it’s only dinner. I’m hoping after dinner people will be up dancing and moving around.

I would definitely assign tables just to maximize space!

Assigning tables is all you should need for a buffet meal

We're having a buffet and assigned tables! We'll have the plates at the buffet rather than at the table so people don't have to carry them up with them (or forget to take them up after standing in line lol)

I am doing a buffet and have assigned table, but are letting the guest pick their seats at the table.

As long as you assign each guest to a table, you'll be fine! Each guest can choose their own seat at their assigned table just fine. Just don't do open seating for tables and seats!

I would at least assign tables. That way everyone has a place and know where to go!

We're doing a buffet but we are not doing any seating chart (*gasp I know!) lol The vast majority of weddings we go to around here do not have assigned seating and I'm fairly confident that my 140 guests can find a seat. I am lucky that I don't have huge families or big groups coming except my siblings who will be at the reserved family table if they want...otherwise it is mainly just couples so I'm not concerned. Also our wedding is a fairly informal event (more like a big family reunion with games and all that which just happens to have a wedding involved. lol)

I wouldn't make one (and am not making them for my wedding of 200, regardless of what we serve). People will just sit where they want, anyways. Why waste your time and money making table & seating cards when they will just cause confusion for the people who follow the rules, since some other relative will be sitting in their seat?

Assigning tables is a must in my opinion, as it ensures everyone will have a seat and parties that need to stay together can, and any special needs for seating can be met (such as sitting elderly relatives nearer an accessible exit, putting your first trimester girlfriend close to the bathroom, and making sure highchairs are available for tykes). Plus if you have a lot of guests who don't know each other, you can group table assignments in a thoughtful way by putting people together who have common interests, just to make the meal more enjoyable for everyone.

Assigning exact seats is unnecessary for buffets or family style meals. Even weddings I have been to with plated meals just had assigned tables, not specific seats.

We assigned seats & tables for our 125 guest buffet style wedding. We did our seating chart by table.
