I don't find assigned seats to be necessary.

I think assigned tables is sufficient. Allow your guests to sit where they choose at the table. That is how I'll do it.

Assigned seats are a bit more challenging but it also depends on your headcount. Since we’re already doing assigned tables I want to write out seating cards so we’ll just place them down at each table

I don't think you need to assign seats. We're just assigning tables, and having escort cards so that people can claim a seat at their table - should be fine for us.

I've never been to a wedding with assigned seats. I don't think they're necessary in most situations.
