Seating chart with kids?

Jocelyn, on November 21, 2019 at 1:57 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
So we are allowing kids at our reception but I wasn’t sure if I should include them in the seating chart as well? If they’re over the age of 3 do you think they’ll need a chair? Or on parents laps? I’m sorry I’m so confused! Please help lol

I’d allow a chair for every child. Little ones will either be in a high chair (which needs the space) or parents may want to put the car seat on a chair if they’re very small. I wouldn’t want a wriggly two year old on my lap for the whole wedding - allocate them seats.

Even if they’re under 3, a child should still have their own seat. Either a regular chair for them to sit/have the carrier on or a highchair. For what it’s worth, my 7 year old has been sitting at the dinner table with us in a regular chair since she was 18 months old. She’d never have sat on my lap to eat.

Agree you need to allow a seat/space for every single guest, regardless of age. Babies in carriers will need to be placed on a seat/sling or there needs to be room to move a chair out and put a stroller in that space. Any other young child will need a chair, highchair, or booster. If you have a lot of young kids, I'd talk with your venue about how many highchairs or boosters they have, in case you need to rent more. Few children are good about sitting on an adult's lap for long, and, especially, at a crowded banquet table, it will be nearly impossible to eat with a child on a guest's lap. For everyone's safety and firecodes, aisles/walkways will need to be clear, so everyone needs to have a seat at a table.

Yes! Of course they need a chair! Even if they’re under 3 they need a chair! No parent wants to spend the whole dinner with a child on their lap while they eat! Just look into booster seats or car seat slings at your venue! Absolutely give them a seat though!!!

I would give them a chair! you could also ask the parents if the child will need a highchair or booster seat.

we had children for our wedding and when i did the place cards and seating chart i sat them as a family. example : Mr. John Smith & Family, Table 8" I had a chair for everyone unless they requested a high chair.

I would ask the parents. some parents asked for a baby seat and some told me they didn't need one, they could be on their laps

Everyone needs a chair (even babies). Parents need hands to eat too and having kids or carriers in a chair is much easier for everyone.
