Seating Chart Question

Julia, on June 14, 2017 at 3:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

Hello everyone Smiley smile

Just wondering what your thoughts are on this. For guests who are bringing a plus-one that I do not know personally, is it ok to put on the seating chart: "Table 5: John Smith and Guest" (e.g.)? Or beforehand, should I find out the exact name of the plus-one instead of using "and guest"? Thanks Smiley winking

If you can, find out the name of the guest. If not, then "and guest" works.

In my experience people have been writing their guests name on the rsvp so I know what to write for the table cards

I chose to get the full name of the plus one because I wanted them to feel special/important.

Personally I think it's nicer to add the persons name. All of my guests that I invited with a plus one wrote their guests name in. Maybe you'll get lucky with some that way.

I like to know the name of their plus one.

When they see the seating chart it seems like I took the time to know their name

We got all of the full names; they should be writing it on the RSVP card.

People have been writing their names of the guest attending. It is easier for me when it comes to place cards and plated food.

Thanks everyone! You all seem to be in agreement. My mom thinks "and guest" is fine, but I feel like the person should be mentioned! Glad my gut feeling was confirmed. My other concern was what if I have the seating chart all finished with the plus-one's name, but my guest decides to last second bring a different person as their plus-one? Then the wrong name will be on the chart Smiley sad

@Gymrat That is a good idea. I always feel important when I see my name!

If the person you invited makes a last-minute swap, that's not on you.

So far I've had one person write their name and just "guest" on the RSVP. I figure she's deciding who she wants to bring for a date. I plan to try and find out a name before I order the place cards, otherwise, I'll just her put her "and guest" on there.

I would try to find out the name if you can. I was listed as "guest" on the seating chart at H's cousin's wedding, and we were engaged at the time. I'm still salty.

I asked for the names. I had to give everyone an individual card for meal indication, and I didn't want to put "Guest of John Smith" on it, or whatever.

Names if you can get them.

My cousin was being wonky about her date (she ended up coming alone) but J made her a placecard that said "Flaky Judy's date."

I typically use "Guest of John Smith" if their names have not been given.

On the rsvp I ask for the name and meal choice. Name solution solved.

Thanks guys, I'm hoping people will spell out their plus-one's actual name on the RSVPs. Instead of putting only their own name and filling in "2" for number of people coming.
