Seating chart + Place cards

Nerissa, on January 18, 2020 at 10:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
Is it overkill to have a seating chart sign plus placecards at each seat at the tables? I have a mix of singles and couples and want to make sure couples stay together.

Totally acceptable to have a seating chart and cards at the tables to assign seats. We went to a wedding that did this, and it worked well.

I don’t think it’s overkill, but I also don’t think assigning seats is necessary.

I agree with Caytlyn (as per usual). I’ve never been to a wedding in which a couple was separated at a table due to single guests taking up an odd arrangement. It’s always worked out.

If I'm understanding, you'd assign both the table and specific seat? Unless the tables have 20+ ppl or you're trying to separate some parties, I don't know that the other step is needed.

It's like on a plane - I've never had someone upset to let me take the middle seat next to my partner. Otherwise they'll just have us talking over them or something weird lol

We are doing this since we are having long “Viking style” tables that will seat 30 at each.

^yes, that's where it makes sense to me. Otherwise you might have people leave weird gaps and separate families or couples. Very cool

I would be pretty surprised to go to any event and not be seated with my SO. It is not overkill but I also don't think it is necessary.
