Seating chart or No Seating chart?

FH and I have different views on a seating chart I think that a seating chart should be in forced and he believes we should just let everyone sit where they please. Is everyone doing a seating chart? Anything different you are doing?

Please, please, please at least assign tables! I have horror stories about attending "open seating" events.

Definitely have a seating plan! I've been to multiple weddings where anyone could sit where they wanted too, which caused fights and etc

Ooh... I just realized I should keep my very conservative in-laws away from my very gay niece and her girlfriend. Smiley tongue

Tell your FH you got this. You are absolutely right. There is literally no reason to not do one. It will only help your guests. How many people are you having?

    @beutivant I will be having 65 guest

Many of you are right it would be a disaster to let everyone run and grab a seat.

UPDATE: I will be assigning tables to everyone and they can pick a seat. Thanks to the WW seating chart I was able to show my FH how easy it was to just assign tables Smiley smile He is now on board with the whole Idea. Thank You ladies

We're having at most 35 guests - still doing a seating plan. We won't bother with escort cards though, just place cards on the table (will be 1 or 2 long tables depending on RSVPs). Even at a small event it's important to think about how groups will get along. I want to be sure shy people are near outgoing people, guests have something in common to discuss, and most importantly, I need to be sure all the tax lawyers don't end up in one group talking about work all night (the struggle is real on this one!).

Definitely go with a seating chart! One of my best friends had a rather large wedding and did open seating. She also didn't have a head table so it ended up being super awkward for their college friends (me included with a few other bridesmaids) and their guests because all tables were taken by the bride and groom's family, leaving 1 or 2 seats open at each table. We ended up just standing around.

No matter how many guests (unless like 10 and under), have assigned tables! It seems nice to let everyone sit where they want, but if you do that, you WILL end up needing many extra tables so that all couples/families can sit together.

Seating chart is a must! Most people expect them at weddings ... at least all the ones I've been to

We are doing one because we have a few people who should not be at the same table. Plus it makes it easier on the guests

Seating chart is necessary for us. Our meal is plated and the entree was preselected by guests when they rsvp. So we need to know where everyone is sitting so they get the right food.

I still think even with a buffet it's not a bad idea. If you didn't want assigned seats you could just do table assignments then people could pick where they sit at that table

As a guest, it drives me nuts when there's no seating chart. If I want to sit with a group of five or six people that I haven't seen in a long time, we're SOL if we can't find seats together. I hate it.

I would assign tables and let your guests decide on the particular seat

I am personally having a seating chart I think it'll just make things easier plus I plan having made metal or wood name card at each seat

I know you already said you guys are doing table assignments (yay, me too!) but I just want to say be careful about how you assign tables. A few years ago I was at a friends wedding (FH was not) and I didn't know anyone except my family and her family. I ended up being seated at the friends table, separated from my family. I know that they were thinking I would enjoy that, but I would have just preferred to sit with my family since it was a long meal!

You need table assignments- open seating at weddings causes chaos.
