    ASSIGNED TABLES minimum.

Guests should know which table they are sitting at.

To clarify, do you mean assignment of tables or of seats? If the former I am on Team Seating Chart. As a guest I like being told where to go and not have to "hold seats" for my family to sit together.

    You need to assign tables.

You definitely need to make a table plan. Otherwise you'll have all manner of chaos as people pull up extra chairs and push tables together.

Having things unassigned in any capacity will lead to utter chaos that you don't need the day of.

    Assign tables.

For our wedding, we are going to assign everyone to a table and guests can arrange themselves as they see fit at their assigned table.

That's what I thought would be most appropriate. I grew up in an area where the norm was to not have a seating chart, so my mom thinks it's weird that we're going to have a seating chart.

At the very LEAST assign tables for every reason PPs have suggested.Free seating is just asking for a disaster and many couples/families being split up if enough extra tables and chairs are provided, which is a waste of money anyway. Assign tables.

"Free seating?" = "A free for all."

At least gotta do table assignments. Unless you want a big cluster eff and dinner to run late because it took forever for seats to be arranged

We did assigned seats and tables. Worked like a charm and everyone was around someone they felt comfortable with and kept the conversation going all night.

At least assign the tables. Otherwise it will be chaotic and I've heard stories of how the family had to sit all the way in the back away from the bride and groom because other people took those seats first.

We are doing free seating. Everyone will have a seat so they are all adults... sit where you want.

FSIL did not assign tables and it was awkward and a mess. Assign tables. It's a courtesy for your guests.

Assign seats or tables. That way there aren't random single seats at every table and no where for a late-arriving couple to sit together.

We are doing assigned tables. That way I can keep a few guest away from each other, else a little bit-o drama will occur & I want my guests to have a good time...not to be suck by someone they can't stand.

My FH and I are doing a buffet for the food so it's free seating but assigned seating is suggested if you are having the meal plated
