seating chart hacks?

Cass, on June 21, 2017 at 2:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

RSVPs are coming in and I'm starting to think seating charts (need to have numbers and number of tables to my venue in 3 weeks). Anyone have any good hacks that make the process a little easier?

I've heard that using the colored post-it tabs makes it easy. For example:

    Brides family: Pink

    Grooms family: Blue

    Brides friends: Green

    Grooms friends: Yellow

Write everyone's name on the tabs and you can stick them on a piece of paper with your floorplan on it.

I waited until I had all my RSVPs in and then started dividing the people on the list up into groups of people who were part of the same family or social groups. It took 10 minutes.

There's no real hack to this. It just takes an hour or 2 and a glass of wine, pen and paper.

Draw your room by hand on some sheets of paper, and draw a bunch of circles. Then start grouping people.

Ps, now I'm feeling behind because my wedding is a week after yours and we just got our invites out last weekend.

I used the seating chart tool on WW, it works really well.

    Allseated.com

It has my venues layout on there already so it makes it super easy.

I took a different, unpopular approach. Instead of waiting till RSVPs were in, I added each person as I got their RSVP where they seemed to fit. I had to rearrange things a few times but it seems to have worked!

    I used aisleplanner.com.

I cut out 15 round "tables", then cut and labeled post it slices with names. We color coded the post its like this:

    Pink: AK Family

    Blue: FH Family

    Purple: AK Friends

    Green: FH Friends

Orange: Mutual friends and coworkers (we work together)

Then we just went to town. It look probably 4 hours, and some drinks, and some irritation but we got it done in one night. Keep in mine people don't fit perfectly, and you'll have to mix people up. We tried to stick to having two couples that knew one another with another two couples who we thought would get along. I was worried about this, but my mom assured me it would help people mingle and be more comfortable.

I used WeddingWire's seating chart! If you already have your guest list on here then it's super easy!

I'm echoing pp... I used a google docs spread sheet which was very easy to do and easy to change. I also color coded depending on different factors

I used dessert sized paper plates and post-its. It was very easy to move people around.

I also used WW's seating chart too. It was surprisingly a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

My biggest advice is to think in circles. I found it went a lot easier if I thought of it that way instead of each individual person.
