Seating chart, extra tables!

Cortney, on September 26, 2019 at 8:01 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
We are doing assigned seating and will have a table and chair for everyone that rsvp'd (obviously). Do people do extra open tables just in case random people show up or...? If so how many?

We didn’t have any extra table or chairs. If someone didn’t RSVP we followed up with them to see if they were coming or not.

I've seen people do extra open seats and tables in case. I've seen Them go unused and you'd have to pay for them

My venue said they usually have a table ready in case someone shows up unexpectedly

We're not doing any extra tables, but we're renting 2 or 3 extra chairs just in case, but more for if someone wants to pull a chair up to a different table for a bit or if a vendor wants to sit for a little than if someone shows up unexpectedly

Good Luck! This part is going to drive me nuts, I can already feel it. Planning seating charts and dealing with unexpected arrivals. LOL

Thanks everyone! We are also following up with everyone that didn't rsvp. I had planned on two extra full tables to appease my future mother in law because I know she really wanted them, and turns out she thinks 2 isn't enough. She's thinking like 5 or 6, which just seems absolutely absurd!

No. I think that would look really weird, honestly, and as long as you’ve followed up with everyone , it’d be rare to have someone just show up. If you are really concerned, I’d leave a couple tables not completely filled (like 6 people at an 8 person table, or something), and have some spare chairs so you could squeeze them in *if*
you needed to. I’ve never been at a wedding where uninvited guests showed up though. If I went to a wedding and there was a whole empty table I’d think something may have happened!

That’s absolutely bizarre . ....iiiii might encourage your SO to make sure she’s not trying to do this to secretly invite extra guests?? May be crazy, but that sounds really suspicious to me

We didn't have extra tables or chairs. For us, it worked out that two tables ended up with a few less people than would fit, and they had extra chairs in the back. No one extra showed up, but if they did we would add a table.

I'm not! If they don't RSVP or respond to follow-ups, they don't get a seat Smiley smile
