Seating Arrangements for Small Space

Breana, on December 31, 2018 at 10:14 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

I am having a wedding in a living history museum (like a little historical village). The space that we have for the Reception is kind of small and the event coordinator sent a seating chart with tables scattered about the room seating only 4 people to a table. Has anyone else seen such small seating arrangements like this? Should I suggest a different seating outline or do you think it would be okay to have 4 people to a table. Also, should I do a seating chart? Some families are more than 4 people and it would be difficult to find seats for everyone. Plus I am having a food truck and the caterer would like people to come up by the type of meat they are getting. Has anyone had a kids table - was it successful? Sorry, so many questions.

Each of my tables seats 8 people. However my space is rather large. Could you see if there’s another seating plan option that could work for your space?

Our space is large also we are planning on 7 or 8 depending on how I can get these table assignments done. We are having 2 or 3 kids tables, for the bigger ones and the not so needy kids.
Have you asked to sit down and work on the table placement together.

My sister didn't do table assignments and people sat where the bridal party was supposed to sit... She was annoyed, so I'm doing table assignments

Could you perhaps do two long tables instead of a large group of smaller ones? Four to a table could work, but it could also make for some awkwardness. I think a seating chart is always best for larger parties.

I think you know your crowd best

im going with 6-8 per table but will have 5-10 “empty” seats so
people can move around and mingle at different families

i think 4 seems very spread out considering table size at my venue

i think banquet style seating (rectangle tables end to end) is the best style for 4 per table if you like that number

Thanks for the help everyone! I am waiting to hear back from the other event coordinator for an alternative seating options and if we don't like that we'll ask for a different arrangement and probably will end up bringing benches in so that we can seat more to a table. The way that the tables are made only fits one chair to a side and when put together, it doesn't make any difference and we end up losing a spot on the ends.
