Seat Assignments

Kortnie, on March 20, 2020 at 5:35 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13

Hello everyone!

We are just going to continue to go forth with our wedding planning as if there are no worries to think about (With a back up plan set of course).

Opinions on assigned seating and free seating?

We will have about 150-170 guests, each table seating 10 people.

We are on the side of preferring to let people sit where-ever they want.

Would like more input as my fiance doesn't really seem to have a preference!

With that many people I really recommend a seating chart! At least for the tables. That is too many people to sit themselves.

I am team assigned tables. It will take people longer to find seats that fit their families or group of friends, etc

Seating chart. Always a seating chart. It's easier on guests and must more cost efficient. If you choose not to have a seating chart, you will need to provide, on average, 20% more tables, chairs, place settings, etc. since guests don't seat themselves efficiently.

    Good point!

Unfortunately, we have a big family with a lot of kids - so trying to figure out how to work that in there.

Cant decide if we would like the kids to sit with their families or kids table by the play corner for them (those old enough).

I agree with the others that a seating chart is best for all of the reasons listed and then some.

I'm planning to have a kids' table (or 2) for the elementary/middle school aged kids. Younger kids will be sitting with their parents, but I'm trying to keep similar aged kids together, so like 2 year olds + parents at one table, infants + parents at one table, etc. I'm also going to leave enough space at some of those tables, so like if a family has a 2 year old and a 5 year old, there's enough space at the table in case they need to bring the 5 year old closer to them.

I wouldn’t even consider not assigning tables. Families will end up having to split up. People that don’t belong at a head table with you parents will take a seat there. It’s just chaos. People 100% need to be told what table to sit at. Besides if you’re doing a plated meal the servers need place cards so they know who ordered what. Our venue has us giving them a count of how many of each entree to each table, all of that will increase speed and accuracy of your dinner service

Plus I don't trust people to be responsible enough lol. If I was a kid I would want to sit with my cousins but if I was a parent I would probably want my kids with me to keep an eye on them? Hmmm. If you have older kids you could put them together? But younger kids def keep them with their parents. Good luck and best wishes!
