Seasoned Bride

Aketha, on January 12, 2020 at 8:55 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 12
I am 46 my groom is 50. We have both been married before and both have grand children. We were both married in the court house in our previous relationships. This time we are having a wedding. A wedding with all of the bells and whistles. The big dress, the attendants, and the tiered cake. Every time i make a decision someone says "Well do you think thats appropriate at your age??" Am I crazy?? Is there and age limit on brides?? Am I wrong to be going all out??

    Uh... you do you.
Ask them if they feel it's appropriate to ask that question.
If you want it, go for it. Whatever it is.

Nope, no age limit! My mom got married again at 52 to the man of her dreams in an elaborate wedding. She even got a big white dress and a cake and a gorgeous veil. I was maid of honor lol. You do you!

Stop telling them your plans. As long as you are not walking down the aisle naked do what you want. They are not contributing funds to tell you what to do. You never had a wedding and deserve one so go for it.

YESSSSSS it’s appropriate at your age to create the wedding of your dreams (especially since neither one of you did the first time around). ❤️ I was 44 (1st marriage) on my wedding day and only for a split second did I doubt the appropriateness of wearing a ballgown. I felt beautiful in it! And because my hubby had done the church wedding already in his 1st marriage, we were both on the same page about an outdoor ceremony and a fun reception theme.

Celebrate love the way that makes your heart flutter! (And shush the nay-sayers or stop sharing details.)

Second marriage for me-I’ll be 61, he will be 54. Different hubby, different people, different time. I’ve had more than one person say why bother-both with getting married again or doing the whole wedding, bag ass fluffy dress and all. (mines blush but it’s poofy, sparkly and has a train). My feeling, if you don’t want to come, then don’t. We just want to share our joy. We’re having a party. Let’s celebrate!

So nice to see this post. I am 60 and my fiance is 61. We both got married in the back yard the first time. This time we are have a 150 guest, with all the bells and whistles! Seven bridesmaid and grooms. Mainly my nieces, daughter, god daughter, son and nephews!! I decided to incorporate young folk in the party, so we could have a real party!! Do it your way and listen to no one but each other. My two children are grown and my fiance doesn't have any children. I have two a boy and a girl and my baby just graduate from college 12/2019, so the party is on!!

Them asking if a wedding is "appropriate at your age" is like asking if love is appropriate at your age. Love is always appropriate, timeless and beautiful for all ages and should be celebrated however you want. You rock it and enjoy yourself however you want!!

    Do it!

Though if people want to question you, feel free to drop them off the guest list and invite someone who *is* excited for you!
