Seamstress says bustle, I say wrist loop

Kristen , on November 6, 2017 at 9:46 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

I said Yes to my dream dress yesterday(finally)!! The seamstress said this dress will be VERY expensive for alterations (and I'll need alot done)...one thing we are not seeing eye to eye on is the bustle. She said I need to bustle the dress because it will be so much easier to move with and so no one will step on the dress. My first wedding, my now ex husband stepped on my dress and pooped off all my buttons that held my bustle anyway, so it was pointless. I so badly want a wrist loop. Has anyone ever had a wrist loop instead of a bustle? Anyone else going that route? I'll attach a picture of my dress. Thank you!

Due to a large bust, they want me to order larger and take in around arms and waist...but just look at it (heart eyes)

I would honestly go with whatever the seamstress recommends for the bustle vs loop.

    Lovely dress!

The wrist loop can become heavy and hurt your wrist.

I would def go bustle. I couldn't imagine having to carry the train around on my wrist all night. I've also heard of it breaking and then you're shit outta luck.

ETA I suck at your and you're

You might want to bustle it... That looks pretty heavy for a wrist loop, and you wouldn't want to tear that beautiful dress!! You look great in it btw!! Congrats!

I have made a personal decision to listen to my wedding proffessionals and so far they have not let me down! For example, I wanted to wear a specific dress in my engagement photos and my photographer said no that it didn't make sense in the setting and climate. I listened to get, and was so thankful I did!! If your seamstress says you need a bustle, listen to her!!! She is the expert!! Heck, get both!

I initially wanted to just do a wrist loop as well---but am SO glad I listened and went with the bustle. my dress came with a small wrist loop sewn in, and I used it for my bridal portraits. It was a mess. There was so many yards of fabric I had to hold my arm up over my head to get the fabric off the ground or bunch it all up and hold it in my arm. I ended up going with an "over bustle" which would work well with your dress as well since there is a defined seam at your waist. Mine was a 16 point bustle, but it was SO easy to do compared to other bustle types. Several guests and my hubby stepped on the back of the dress and ripped out a few points-- but honestly that was still way better than dealing with carrying it around all night.

I say bustle. It will be an exhausting day and even more exhausting to hold up your train with your arm. Just holding my bouquet was tiresome. The dress can be heavy and holding up your arm throughout reception and pics will not be comfortable. Beautiful dress, though!

Do both then you have the option to sue the wrist loop but when you get tired of holding it you can bustle it

Bustle it up girlie. That wrist loop is going to be like a child hanging on your arm. The more the night goes on, the heavier it will be. Also, dancing with a wrist loop??? How much fun is that?

Yes, a bustle can get stepped on, but at least it will still stay up with a few buttons. Maybe try a French bustle with the ties. If someone steps on your wrist loop...game over immediately.

Is it possible to do both? I have not begun dress shopping so I do not know if it makes alterations costly or anything. My thought is you can have the wrist loop and if you decided throughout the night it gets too heavy or in the way you can bustle it.

I cannot imagine having a wrist loop. I danced a lot and it would have been a huge pain (and your dress looks heavy). I'm team bustle without a doubt.

I'm generally all about doing what feels right and follow your gut. Bustle this. A good tailor is hard to find and should be listened to.

Honest opinion here, I've NEVER seen a wrist loop that looks good. It might if you hold still and generally keep your arms down but that's not realistic. And 9 times out of 10, it looks like it's just the loop for hanging the train on a hanger, not a purposeful attachment that was added.

Always trust the seamstress. I've learned that time & again Smiley smile

In all seriousness, I think you will enjoy your event much more with a bustle. It's one less thing to worry about.
