Seamstress can’t bustle my dress

Purpledoggy, on October 22, 2019 at 6:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
So my wedding is in 12 days and I finally get my dress back from the seamstress (one of my mothers friends) and the bustle still isn’t right and will not hold the train off of the floor at all. I am out of time to find someone else to bustle my dress and I don’t know what to do now. I’m wondering if buying a second reception dress might be my only option at this point. I’m so frustrated that I didn’t go with someone else for my alterations but my mother insisted on using her friend since she paid for the dress. I told my mother that I may buy another dress and she is livid. She insists she will bring safety pins and will pin it up herself after the ceremony.

Do you have a picture of the dress with and without the bustle? I'd look for a local higher-end dry cleaner that does onsite tailoring, and see if they can fix it. Unless your dress is really unusual, it's hard to imagine a bustle being impossible to create.

Did she say why a bustle won’t work? My dress needed a 3 layer bustle to get it all to stay.

My bustle broke twice and i just carried my train or let it hang for the rest of the night - it really wasn't a big deal. Try taking the dress to another seamstress quickly to add a bustle, most are not super complicated!

I made an appointment with another seamstress for tomorrow so hopefully they can do something to keep it up. The last seamstress just didn’t know what they were doing and every time they “fixed” the bustle it was wrong. They’ve tried three times and still haven’t gotten it right and now I’m out of time and don’t want to mess with them anymore.

Couldn't you just call around and try to find a seamstress for an "emergency bustle"? I mean, if that's the only thing your dress needs, I can't imagine it would take very long to do.
