Scuffed/chipped Gemstone

Angela, on May 16, 2023 at 9:23 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 3

Help! I got engaged December 10th, 2022 and just recently noticed a slight dullness on the side of my ring (circled in pictures). It looks like it may just be a scuff, but it definitely doesn't have the shine that the rest of the gemstone has (I have a Morganite). It really is not very noticeable but it is eating away at me knowing that it's there- of course I notice it more because I stare at it 24/7. What should the best course of action be? Leave it as it is? Take it to a jeweler? All help is appreciated!

Just take it to a jeweler to get cleaned. Some charge a nominal fee, and others do it for free. My ring always looks brand new whenever I take it in. You can also get gemstone cleaner to use at home off Amazon.

From my understandings, morganite is not as "tough" and "durable" as diamond or moissanite, so it may just be more prone to getting scratches. Take it to a local jewler to clean it, they are usually nicer than the big chain jewlery stores. At least from my experience.

I'm not very familiar with morganite, but since it is softer than a diamond you may want to consider a different setting. Having it set in a lower profile or bezel will protect the stone more.
