Scripture reading

Emma, on August 5, 2020 at 12:11 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
From what I know, it is traditional to have at least one passage of scripture read at a Baptist/Christian ceremony. I was thinking instead of having our pastor read the scripture, I would ask my brother to. He is 17, will be 18 5 days after the wedding. He is currently doing an internship at our church. He will be playing the guitar while I walk down the isle. Part of me doesn’t want to ask him in fear of overwhelming him but he is an amazing speaker. Public speaking isn’t something he is afraid of. Do you think I should ask him or just have the pastor do the reading? If my brother does it would our pastor say something like “ the bride and groom have asked _____ to read a passage from (insert book of the Bible”

I had my pastor read a couple of verses too and that’s what he said - the bride and groom have asked me to read these verses, etc.

If my brother doesn’t do it I know our pastor will. I just like the idea if including my brother because he didn’t want to be a groomsmen 😂

Talk to the pastor and see how he normally runs a ceremony. Many officiants do all the readings themselves in addition to the rest of the ceremony and others are open to a guest reading.

That's exactly it! Readings by other people are very common during wedding ceremonies, so your officiant will have no trouble introducing them!

I'd also ask your brother in the exact same way you proposed it here - "I'd love for you to do a reading (especially because you're an amazing speaker) - but I also don't want to overwhelm you!" and see what he says! Smiley heart
