Dedicated April 2020

Scottish Bride

Hi all!!

I don't know if you get many UK brides on here, I've been lurking for a bit (first time posting) and you all seem to be based in the States, but I've found the discussions on here really fun and informative so I thought I would join in as I'm getting to that stage in the planning process where all I can think about is the wedding and I'm trying not to bore all my friends and family (not to mention FH!) to tears!

Our wedding is 25th April 2020, in Dundee, Scotland (where we live) so just a little more than 10 months out. Any date twins or other April 2020 brides out there? If so, what stage of the planning process are you at? We are just sending out our Save the Dates at the moment. I ordered my dress last month (which I am just IN LOVE with) so it's all starting to feel very real!

Hi from New York!! We’re getting married April 30, 2020!! Fun fact, FMIL’s family is Scottish, so there may well be a few kilts at my wedding ceremony! Happy planning 😊

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Lyndsey! I'm so happy that you have found this community helpful and informative! How long have you been engaged for? 👰🤵

You mentioned that you ordered your dress! What is it like?

As you mentioned, this is the US-based WeddingWire site so most couples here are living or getting married in the United States. If you are interested, WeddingWire also has a UK site, although it doesn't have a forum community. You could definitely check out ideas section for articles and inspiration or the Suppliers tab if you are looking for vendors in your area!

Welcome Scottish bride! Don’t worry, guests won’t be bored. Some of my favorite weddings were small (fewer than 50 guests), with ceremony & dinner but no dancing/DJ. Good food, good drinks & good friends = a good time.

P.S. When asking for etiquette advice or sharing ideas about that, you may want to state you’re in the U.K. I’ve noticed a few cultural differences (tiered receptions seem ok there but those are rude in the US) and otherwise you may get an accidental earful from us! 😊

Ooh fun! My FH, the groomsmen and other male family members will be wearing kilts at our wedding, and a few guests too probably. I do love men in kilts but I'm never sure what non-Scots think of them!

Thanks! I looked for a UK WW forum and couldn't find one which is how I found my way here.

We have been engaged since April 2018 so it will have been two years by the time the wedding rolls around. It seemed a long way off at first but ever since we hit the one year mark time seems to have speeded up!

My dress is Maggie Sottero "Dorinda", Ivory over soft blush with beautiful lace and vintage accents. I will post a picture as soon as I figure out how!

Thanks for the advice! I have a couple of American friends so I'm aware there are a few cultural differences across the pond, you are quite right that tiered receptions are the norm here. Perhaps I'll steer clear of etiquette where possible to avoid any misunderstandings, really all I want to do is chat to some fellow brides as no-one else quite gets the excitement and/or stress! 😊

Tee hee, so true! These forums are great for sharing excitement and stress. I STILL love chatting about weddings two years after mine.

Welcome! I feel like I drive my friends and family crazy with wedding talk too, so I come on here instead lol. There’s always plenty of people here to share your excitement and enthusiasm 😉.

My MOH is wanting to have a destination wedding in Ireland because her father’s family is Irish-American and as she says “it’s a good excuse for everyone to take a trip they probably never will otherwise.” I forewarned her she might have to drag me home kicking and screaming. I would love to visit Scotland too, and I’ve been dreaming of going to France as long as I can remember.

Ooh that's lovely! I never would have though I'd end up with a blush wedding dress but there you go!

I hope you do get the chance to visit Ireland and Scotland! The great thing once you are over here is that it's relatively cheap to hop around Europe on budget flights and AirBnB
