Scoop Neckline to Sweetheart Neckline

Libby, on May 22, 2015 at 12:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hey ladies,

Does anyone know if I would be able to change this to a sweetheart neckline somehow? I am thinking not quite due to the beading, but I wanted to see if it was possible. Could I remove just the neckline beading and then do it? Or could I have my seamstress maybe cut out the slip underneath so it has a sweetheart illusion? If that would even look good? Let me know your thoughts and even pictures if you have some that would show the sweetheart illusion

Oh man, it's really gorgeous! I am not a seamstress, but just wanted to say it is very pretty! Can you talk to your seamstress? She may be able to give you some advice on whether it can be done or not! =)

Thank you! I tried, but she said she has to see the dress first and I sent her a picture, but she wants to see it in person. My appointment is not for 2 more months so I just didn't want to wait that long to find out haha

I'm sure she could...do you not want like the scoop? I'd be worried that the super low back with a sweetheart neckline would show a bit more skin, which is supposed to be shown in classy increments: A mini skirt looks great paired with a more covering top and a skimpy top looks best paired with pants..

I think your seamstress would have the best advice on changing the neckline. I'm not sure how she could adjust the neckline without doing something to the beading.

Yes, I do not want it to be too low or anything, I don't have much going on in that area anyway haha but everyone always tells me how sweetheart necklines compliment me best and I like that style more on me too so just wanted to see my options

Beading can always be picked apart and replaced. It's time consuming but 100% doable-I and many other people have remade many dance costumes with that very process.

The construction of the neckline you should consult a professional you trust- you can always take away- but it's much harder to add- but you should be able to.

I think a good seamstress should be able to do it. I can't really tell what type of structure your bodice has. Do you know if it has princess seams or darts? Most sweetheart dresses I have seen are fairly structured (boning, with princess seams, underlined, cups). The trim would need to be removed and then mitered (I think) where the princess neckline dips down. Disclaimer: I am not a professional seamstress, I sew clothing etc as a hobby so this is just a somewhat educated guess.

Another thought I had- (I can't see the actual neck line - so again- stabbing in the dark)- a thought would be to embellish- alter the bead work to help create an visual impression of the dip- so you could have a nice beaded edge along the top- but most of the bead work would come down into the sweet heart.

I am not 100% sure as I know nothing about sewing haha, but I would assume a princess seam. It is a two piece wedding dress. It is a slip underneath and then the lace and the beading over the top, if that helps at all Smiley smile

Quick question, have you tried on a sweetheart neckline to see how it will look on you? I was deadest on a sweetheart neckline because I have a smaller chest and I thought it would accentuate it. In the end it was more of a scoop neckline that accentuated my chest but I was also going for strapless.

Yes, I have actually tried on sweetheart necklines and everyone really liked that on me. It might also look funny in that picture due to my girls having no support as my mom said, "they are just hanging there" haha So maybe once I get some support I will like it better than the sweetheart.

As far as support goes, try the sticky bras. I looooove my sticky boobs LOL. I don't think a good seamstress would have an issue turning it into a sweetheart neckline, but I would think it would be too difficult with the very low back to have to also be strapless.

I will say that because the back is such a statement (your back looks amazing BTW) and shows a bit more skin, it is nice actually having the front more toned down and the neckline a bit higher. I am thinking that's what the designer of this dress had in mind. With some structured undergarments I think it would look great as is.

Beautiful dress! Really suits your body. I don't see why a seamstress wouldn't be able transform the neckline for you. Like JoRocka said, if you are just okay with some rouching with the beading, it seems pretty straight forward.
