Scavenger Hunt Ideas

Lisa, on December 10, 2019 at 1:04 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

Hi all,

We had some hiccups with our venues, so our ceremony is at 10:30am and our reception isn't until 5:00pm. We have a lot of out-of-town guests coming, so we thought we could give them something fun to do to kill the time between the two events. We want to do a small, completely optional scavenger hunt around the city to show them our favorite stops, some history, etc. No prizes or anything, more of a mystery they have to solve by finding clues. We're nerdy, so it will probably be something fictional like goblins trying to sabotage the wedding or maybe we "lost" our wedding rings and our guests help find them, something silly like that.

I'm a website designer, so I plan to get it all set up on our wedding website and the first clue will be sent with the invitations. Just curious, has anyone else here done a scavenger hunt for their wedding? Any advice or story ideas?

Thank you!

I've never heard of that before but considering your time gap between ceremony and reception, I see why that would be an idea. I think it sounds like a lot of fun!

While in therapy that sounds like it might be fun, I don't know as if a lot of guests will want to participate. We did a trivia game during our reception and a lot of people didn't participate so I would worry people might not want to participate in a scavenger hunt either. My other concern would be if people would actually tend your reception since there is such a large gap.

That’s so fun! You could tie it into your story as a couple. Place you met, dates you went on, etc. You could also have certain guests meet up with you for lunch. That could be the end point of the scavenger hunt 😂

I thought of this too! Unfortunately our "firsts" all happened before we moved here, but that's okay. We can still share our favorite spots and show them around the city. Smiley smile

Our friends are all gamers in one form or another, so I'm sure a few couples will give it a shot. We don't mind having a gap between the ceremony and reception, it gives our families a chance to change into more comfortable clothes/shoes for the reception, just take a break. Everyone else will be traveling in just for the reception, but in case they get in early they'll have this as an option to check out the city!

What do you mean they will only be traveling in for just the reception? Are they not attending the ceremony as well?

Nope, the ceremony is family only aside from our officiant and my best friend (about 20 people total). Reception is about 75 people. Smiley smile

Oh okay. That sounds similar to what my husband wanted to do, but I said no because I thought it was kind of rude to not allow everyone to attend both. However, with such a gap people would probably choose to attend one or the other.
