Scattered T-Storms predicted

Morganne, on May 15, 2017 at 8:19 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

How should I handle scattered thunderstorms on the big day? Yesterday the forecast was clear and today they're predicting storms. If it was rain all day I'd be totally fine and get some umbrellas and plan some cute rain pictures. But I feel like scattered storms is different to plan for? Am I wrong and just nervous 5 days out??

Spring/summer weather, especially storms, can change quickly. Is your ceremony and reception inside? Is one (or both) outside? Do you have a backup plan if they're outside? I'd wait until later in the week (maybe Thursday) to start making final plans for alternate arrangements (presuming you have back up plans in place). Don't stress yet; weather changes often and quickly!

I wouldn't say you're wrong to be nervous, I would probably be nervous, too. The best you can do is prep for alternate arrangements - plenty of people get married with inclement weather, so just remember it will all work out in the end.

What's your backup plan? Do you have an e-mail lists to quickly notify guests of what to do if there are thunderstorms?

Well, there is nothing you can do about it, right? Make the call on the morning of your wedding to be inside or outside; don't spend your entire wedding day looking at Doppler. If you can set up both (many of my venues do this), that's perfect, but if it looks iffy for an outside ceremony, don't chance it.

No you are not wrong. If the news is predicting possible rain and not just regular light rain but thunder storms you need to plan for that.

Either move inside at your location or rent a tent. I know both are last minute but you should have had a back up plan for this if you were having an outdoor wedding in the first place.

Because what if on the chance it does rain and its more than just a drizzle and you have no umbrellas (which in a thunderstorm, sometimes it won;t even help), no indoor back up or no tent. Your guest will be angry, they won't hear your ceremony, the dress you may have spent a lot on is soaked, not just damp, your hair and make up will be ruined and you may have spent good money on that and your photographer may decide its not good conditions for her to shoot.

Yes I totally forgot to say we have a plan b for an indoor ceremony and reception in case of bad weather. I'm a planner and love plans so it's driving me nuts knowing I can't do anything about it until that day

I'm in the same boat. It's not scattered for me but basically cloudy and 10-15mm of rain so basically rained out.

    Smiley sad

I hope weather changes too. I swear it always rain on long weekend (Canada has their May long weekend 1 week before USA)

I think T-storms will add an element of charm to your wedding.
