Scarring and dark spots remedy

Alyssa V, on April 28, 2017 at 5:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

So I have a really bad habit stemming from anxiety where I scratch my arms and legs. Because of this I have a lot of scars from where I've mindlessly scratched so hard it caused a cut then a scab (which i kept scratching off). I'd really like to not have these clusters of ugly dark spots and scars all over my arms and legs for my honeymoon or wedding. I'm olive skinned and tan incredibly fast which is really just going to serve to make the spots darker. Anyone have any suggestions for a lotion, toner, or oil I could use to lighten them? I don't care about them totally vanishing, I just don't want them quite so obvious. Also if anyone has any tips to stop the scratching, that would be excellent

I don't have advice on how to make them go away, but you need to be wearing some serious SPF in those areas. Scars are so sensitive to the sun so that really just makes them worse.

I don't know much about the condition Lucille noted but that definitely sounds psychological and also recommend seeing a therapist for something like that.

    Good luck OP!

I too have dark/olive skin, and a picker! I use porcelain (a skin lightner) they sell it at most drug stores. You use it only at night. I use a qtip and only apply it to the spots I want to lighten. Make sure to use sun screen during the day. After a few applications the marks will lighten. You may want to do some sort of exfoliating in between too. Good luck!

I scar very easily as well. Like @Ananda said, SUNSCREEN is key to prevent ongoing dark spots. I pile on the 50 SPF everytime I walk outside even when it's downcast.

Recently, I've been using coconut oil on my face (overnight) and have noticed my acne scars fading a lot quicker than other products I've used in the past. I haven't used it any place else on my body but I imagine it would work similarly. Good luck!

Rosehip oil and sweet almond oil have been very helpful for me for fading scars.

Any product with hydroquinone or Kojic acid will lighten somewhat, but you need to use sunscreen as well so the don't come back.

It's embarrassing and tough for me to admit, but I have dermatillomania. @Lucille is right and therapy is really the only treatment, although I also take medication for anxiety. Always use sunscreen, even on old scars. Pure vitamin E is also helpful. No real advice, but I'm definitely following bc I've been searching for a good scar/dark spot serum or treatment.

I've tried Mederma and arnica, I can't really tell whether they helped or not. Can you make an appointment with a dermatologist? And to address the scratching itself, speaking to a therapist to address the cause of the scratching sounds like the best route. Good luck!

I know the creams do work but take time. The scratching issue can be dealt with in therapy. You may need to camo the marks with some airbrushing. I would consult a MUA soon to discuss this option. NYX and NARS if applied in the right shade can hide just about anything.

Mederma does work wonderfully for scarring, and they now one with have a sunscreen in it. Also, BioOil is great. My sister had some tunneling and scarring from a stomach surgery, with TONS of scarring, and BioOil worked great for her scarring and keloids, but it doesnt have sunscreen.

Kiehls Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution Serum! It's worked wonders for my mom and aunt who both have dark spots and olive skin. My mom also has the spots from picking at her skin. I hope this works.

    Good luck!!

I have mixed skin and scar easily. I use kojic acid soap for my body and follow with amlactin lotion (alphahydroxy). For my face I used an alpha hydroxy face cream I get from walgreens. You have to use sunscreen though if you use alpha hydroxy because its so easy to sunburn. I haven't had issues with it though.

I had 13 stitches across my nose and cheek. After using DermalMD Scar Serum for about half year. My gruesome scars are almost not noticeable. I highly recommend this but obviously, don't expect instant results. Your scar will actually look slightly worse when applied. One last thing... I found the serum to work much better than other creme.
